Get paid to flood your fields

Attention, Delta farmers with row or field crops who can manage shallow flooding! The BirdReturns Program creates short-term wetland habitat that migratory birds desperately need by paying farmers to flood their fields.
The program requires participants to manage crop stubble post-harvest, and flood and hold water for at least three weeks between August 28 and October 13.
Applications close Aug. 14.
Tribal grant program launched
The California Natural Resources Agency launched a $101 million grant program this week to support tribal initiatives that benefit their communities while helping to achieve the state’s world-leading climate and conservation goals.
The new Tribal Nature-Based Solutions Grant Program will support tribes to reacquire ancestral land, address impacts of climate change on their communities, and conserve and protect biodiversity.

The approved basins (Delta in bold) are East Bay Plain, East Contra Costa, Ukiah Valley, Sierra Valley, North San Benito, North American, South American, Butte, Vina, and Wyandotte Creek.
Commission's Delta sign hit by car
This sign welcoming motorists to the Delta National Heritage Area had been up for scarcely a month before it was damaged in an accident.
Around 12:30 p.m. on Friday, July 21, a Honda Civic ran off the road and hit the sign. There were no injuries, no DUI and no hit-and-run.
The California Conservation Corps, which installed the sign for the Delta Protection Commission, is already working to replace it.
