DWR awards $9.2 million to environmental restoration projects
DWR has announced five projects will share $9.2 million to restore streams and creeks to more natural environmental conditions. The projects will also reduce flood risk across multiple California communities. The funding is being made available through DWR’s Riverine Stewardship Program and Urban Stream Restoration Program.
Dutch Slough project preview available next week in Brentwood
A preview of the Dutch Slough restoration project will be presented at a speaker event on Thursday, July 20, in Brentwood. An online option will be available. The restoration project covers 1,100 acres at Big Break and the mouth of Marsh Creek. It will restore the natural estuary formed by the creek’s outlet into the Delta.
Three flood-MAR tours being offered in coming months
The Flood-Managed Aquifer Recharge (Flood-MAR) Network is scheduling three field trips in the coming months to showcase different elements of flood-MAR. On Thursday, Aug. 3, there will be a tour of the dry wells and flood-MAR efforts underway at the Terranova Ranch in Fresno County. A tour of the field headquarters of the Orange County Water District will be held Tuesday, Sept. 19. And then, on a date to be determined in October, a tour of the Cosumnes River corridor will explore two different approaches, vineyard flooding and unsaturated zone wells for creating multi-benefit groundwater recharge projects.

Survey posted on ecosystem health, wildfire resilience
An online survey has been posted to gather perspectives on improving ecosystem health and community resilience to wildfires in Northern California. It is being conducted by the California Wildfire and Forest Resilience Task Force’s Science Advisory Panel. A Spanish version is available. The survey will be open through Tuesday, Aug. 1.
Grants available to educate boaters on keeping waterways clean
California State Parks’ Division of Boating and Waterways is accepting applications for grants to organizations to help educate recreational boaters about proper vessel sewage disposal and the use of pumpout facilities. The grant program targets two geographic regions of California: San Francisco Bay-Delta Estuary and Southern California Coast. The funding is being made available through the Clean Vessel Act Education and Outreach Grant Program. The application deadline is Thursday, Aug. 10.

Quarterly newsletter provides updates for Water Foundation
The latest edition of the Water Foundation’s quarterly newsletter features a recent trip by foundation members to Washington, D.C. They attended President Biden’s signing of an executive order promoting environmental justice. The newsletter also has details on the Dos Rios Ranch Preserve, the largest public-private floodplain restoration project in California.
Chicago will be site of Alliance for Water Efficiency symposium
The Alliance for Water Efficiency will hold its inaugural Water Efficiency and Conservation Symposium in Chicago. The two-day symposium will run Aug. 2 and 3. The symposium will feature presentations, panels, and roundtables, with a primary focus on research and resources for water efficiency and sustainability professionals.
