Flood-MAR and FIRO come together for online workshop
The latest advancements in linking forecast-informed reservoir operations (FIRO) with flood-managed aquifer recharge (flood-MAR) will be discussed during an online workshop on Thursday, July 20. The agenda includes presentations on FIRO test sites and the tools available for reservoir operators to make forcast-informed decisions. There will also be a session on the work being done to identify FIRO-MAR opportunities and advance FIRO-MAR implementation.
Flood-MAR Network featured in FMA newsletter article
The latest issue of the Floodplain Management Association (FMA) newsletter, “The High Water Mark,” includes an article on the development of the Flood-MAR Network. It also covers some of the California history of using flood-MAR to replenish aquifers. The network promotes flood-MAR implementation in California as a way to improve water availability, flood-risk reduction, and groundwater recharge to sustain communities and ecosystems.

DWR maps identify potential groundwater recharge areas
DWR has released the first in a series of maps being developed to support the identification of potential groundwater recharge areas. The maps are available on the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act Data Viewer under the Hydrogeologic Conceptual Model tab. The maps were created using data gathered during statewide airborne electromagnetic surveys.
Map shows where Facilitation Support Services is helping
DWR’s Facilitation Support Services (FSS) provides facilitators to help water management interests and local agencies develop and implement groundwater sustainability plans. An interactive map showing the areas of California that have benefitted from FSS support can be found on DWR’s Assistance and Engagement webpage under the Facilitation Support tab. The map provides information on the benefiting basins, service recipients, and the general services provided.

Site Check tool helps speed-up California housing production
A free tool called Site Check being made available to speed-up housing production in the California. The Governor’s Office of Planning and Researched released the tool that will assist developers and public agencies in finding land where housing projects may qualify for streamlining under the California Environmental Quality Act. A demonstration of the tool’s capabilities will be available during a webinar on Monday, July 10.
Two regional roundtables on equitable community investment
The Strategic Growth Council has scheduled two regional roundtables around the theme “Scaling Government Innovation and Catalyzing Equitable Community Transformation.” The roundtables are designed to develop partnerships and identify opportunities for equitable community investment as State and federal governments make funding available. The roundtable schedule is Friday, July 21, in Palm Desert; and Saturday, Aug. 5, in Oakland. In-person and online options are available.
