Delta Leadership Program Class of 2023 Honored at Closing Reception
On April 14, the newest Delta Leadership Program class was honored at a closing reception held at Bogle Winery. The reception was the culmination of a four-month program during which the class members learned about Delta issues, took a Delta tour, and completed a class project.

The class members will be presenting their project at the next Commission meeting on Thursday, May 18.
The Delta Protection Commission, in partnership with the Delta Regional Foundation, created the Delta Leadership Program to build and support sustained leadership development within the Delta community. The Commission will solicit nominations for the 2024 class in the fall of this year.
Delta Leadership Program Wins American Society for Public Administration Government Innovation Award
The American Society for Public Administration, Sacramento has selected the Commission's Delta Leadership Program as the recipient of their Government Innovation Award for 2022-2023. The award honors an individual or organization that implemented a new program, policy, or solution that made a significant improvement in public service or performance.
The Delta Leadership Program was selected based on its innovative response to a need for local public service succession planning as many of the region’s leaders moved toward retirement.
The Commisison and the Leadership Program’s fiscal sponsor, the Delta Regional Foundation, will formally receive the award at a ceremony the evening of May 10.
Apply to Join the Delta Protection Advisory Committee
Nominations due by Friday, April 28
The Delta Protection Commission is soliciting nominations to serve on the Delta Protection Advisory Commission (DPAC). The DPAC is a 15-member committee that advises the Commission on policy areas and needs of the Delta as a place.
DPAC members serve three-year terms and may be re-elected. The DPAC generally meets every other month. Meetings may be held virtually or in-person at a location in the Delta.
The following five DPAC seats are available:
- Delta Tribe and other organizations
- Delta agriculture
- Delta recreation
- State agency
- Utilities
Current DPAC members in these seats may apply for re-election.
You may nominate yourself or another individual you believe would be interested in serving on the DPAC. To apply, send an email to dpc@delta.ca.gov or a letter to 2101 Stone Blvd., Suite 200, West Sacramento, 95691 with the following information:
- Your name and contact information (If you nominating someone else, include their information as well)
- Which DPAC seat you are applying for
- A brief description of your relationship to the Delta
- How your experience qualifies you or your nominee for the seat you are applying for
Nominations are due by Friday, April 28. The DPAC appointments will be made at the May 18 Delta Protection Commission meeting.

Delta National Heritage Area Advisory Committee Meeting

Virtual meeting online
The Delta National Heritage Area (Delta NHA) Advisory Committee will meet on May 5 to discuss the next steps for the Delta NHA task groups and review the Management Plan Resource Inventory Table. The Committee members will also receive training on compliance with the Bagley-Keene Open Meeting Act.
The meeting notice will be available 10 days before the meeting.
Delta Independent Science Board

During its next meeting, the Delta Independent Science Board (Delta ISB) will receive a seminar presentation on Navigating Deep Uncertainty: Insights on Climate Resilience Planning with Alice Hill. Following the presentation, the Delta ISB will discuss decision making under deep uncertainty. See the seminar flyer (PDF) for more information.
Delta Stewardship Council Meeting

At its next meeting, the Delta Stewardship Council (Council) will host representatives from various California Native American Tribes for a listening session to hear about their ties to the Delta, their sovereignty and relation to the State, and their input regarding Delta management.

The Delta Science Program hosts the Adaptive Management Forum every two years to promote dialogue and information exchange related to adaptive management in the Delta. The 2023 Forum will have a thematic focus on governance for adaptive management.
California Duck Days Festival

California Duck Days is a family-oriented, community-based outdoor festival with activities for people of all ages. On-site activities for families include interactive exhibits, wetland-themed arts and crafts, and much more.

Digitization and Preservation Workshop

This workshop will prepare attendees to take advantage of free digitization and digital preservation services for their institutions' local and statewide California history materials. Attendees will learn general best practices for description, digitization, quality control, and digital preservation. This event is sponsored by the Sacramento River Delta Historical Society & the SacArea History Consortium.
Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Celebration

On May 9, 2023, Contra Costa County will host a multicultural celebration to honor Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) cultures and traditions. The AANHPI Celebration will showcase dance, music, food, and unique customs from some Asian and Pacific Islander communities represented in Contra Costa County, including Nepalese, Korean, Filipino, Chinese, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Lao, Thai, and Burmese communities.
The AANHPI multicultural celebration will be offered simultaneous interpretation in 8 different languages on the County’s website through Zoom.
Asian Pacific Spring Festival

Main Street Locke
The Asian Pacific Spring Festival is one of two annual events organized by the Locke Foundation to celebrate Chinese American culture. The festival will include a lion dance, martial arts, taiko drumming, a tea ceremony, food, and more. Attendance and parking are free.
