NHA Management Plan Updates
The Delta NHA Management Plan will guide the work of the Commission and its partners for the next 10 to 15 years. Over the last two years, the NHA Management Plan Advisory Committee and the four task groups have met to develop the Delta NHA’s mission, vision, objectives, strategies, and actions, resource inventory, and interpretive plan. Pieces of the plan are starting to come together. We encourage you to be involved in the Management Plan process by participating in the NHA Advisory Committee and Commission meetings, as well as supporting your organization’s role as a partner in the NHA’s work.

Congress Enacts Landmark Legislation for National Heritage Areas
On December 22, the US House of Representatives overwhelmingly approved the National Heritage Area Act (S. 1942) on a bipartisan vote of 326-95. This action followed an unusual unanimous consent vote by the Senate. The legislation becomes law with the signature of President Biden.
This legislation will establish a NHA program that creates clear criteria for designation and accountability, fiscal stability by renewing the program for 15 years, and a commitment to protect private property rights. The Delta NHA received an extension on completing its management plan. An additional seven NHAs were designated, consisting of Alabama Black Belt, Bronzeville-Black Metropolis (IL), Downeast Maine, Northern Neck (VA), St. Croix (US Virgin Islands), Southern Campaign of the Revolution (NC/SC), and Southern Maryland.
Passage of the legislation is largely due to the efforts of the Alliance of National Heritage Areas, in which the Delta NHA is a member, and the National Parks Conservation Association.
