 Delta Flood Preparedness Week

The 2022 Delta Flood Preparedness Week is from October 22 to October 29. Are you flood ready?
Delta Flood Preparedness Week is an annual event to raise awareness about flood risk in the Delta and what Delta residents can do to prepare for flooding. This week aligns with California Flood Preparedness Week.
Follow our Facebook and Instagram accounts for tips and resources on how to amke your family and property flood ready. Visit the Delta Flood Ready website for more information to help you be aware, be prepared, and take action in case of a flood emergency.
 Delta Heritage Forum
Thursday, November 3 12 PM to 8 PM

The Forum is a free, full-day event focused on preserving and telling Delta and Carquinez Strait stories, and providing opportunities for partnerships, collaboration, and networking. The theme for this year’s Forum is “Writing the Next Chapter in Delta Heritage.” Anyone with interest in Delta heritage is invited to attend.
The Forum will include an update on the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta National Heritage Area, a discussion group on the upcoming America 250 celebration, an interactive panel on contemporary Delta writing, short, “lightning” talks on various subjects, and an evening workshop on the National Heritage Area Management Plan. The detailed schedule will be available by late October.

 Apply for the 2022 Delta Drought Response Program
Applications are due by 5 PM on October 18
The Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta Conservancy, in partnership with the Department of Water Resources, the Office of the Delta Watermaster, and The Nature Conservancy, and in coordination with Delta water users, is announcing the initiation of the Delta Drought Response Pilot Program for water year 2023.
Participation in the Program requires interested individual agricultural water users to submit bids. Bids for the Program are due at 5 PM on October 18, 2022.
 Delta Restoration Forum Survey
Complete the survey by October 31
Restoration of the Delta involves numerous groups and requires broad collaboration. On behalf of the Delta Plan Interagency Implementation Committee (DPIIC), the Delta Stewardship Council and the Delta Conservancy will co-host the DPIIC’s first Restoration Forum in early 2023. This event will provide space for Delta community members, tribes, and others to share their perspectives and learn about developments in ecosystem restoration efforts.
To schedule and plan the Forum and future events, the Council and Conservancy are seeking Community input through this survey. If you are interested in participating, complete the survey by October 31.
 Ironman Triathalon Road Closures
Sunday, October 23
Multiple locations
On October 23rd, 2022, the Sacramento Region will again be the host of the IronmanTriathlon. There will be road closures throughout the day in the City of Sacramento, the City of West Sacramento, and rural areas of Yolo County south of West Sacramento and in the Clarksburg area. In the week ahead of the event, there will be closure signs to remind everyone of the impacts.

 John Marsh, Contra Costa's First Resident

Los Medanos College Lifelong Learning Center is holding a series of monthly, adult lectures on the history of the Delta through May 2023. This month Carol Jensen, a local historian, will be talking about John Marsh, the first pioneer to settle in the Central Valley. The true-life exploits of John Marsh are as absorbing as those of legendary bandits Joaquin Murrieta and Three-Finger Jack, or the fictionalized Don Diego de la Vega as Señor Zorro.
You do not need to be a student of Los Medanos College to take part in the lectures.
 Isleton Museum Grand Opening

Isleton Museum 29 Main Street, Isleton
The Isleton Museum is planning for its formal grand opening Thursday, October 20 starting at 11 AM. The Museum will be open until 3 PM that day. The event is planned to be outside (of course if inclement weather will move indoors) and Main Street is slated to be closed for the duration.
 Filipino American History Month Fest 2022

Filipino American History Month (FAHM) is celebrated in the United States during October. In 1991, Filipino American National Historical Society board of trustees proposed the first annual Filipino American History Month to commence in October 1992.
FAHM Fest is an event in Stockton that celebrates Filipino American History through culture, art, history, and food! If you are a community leader, educator, entrepreneur, or small business owner, FAHM Fest is a space for all to share stories, collaborate, celebrate, and preserve history within the community in Stockton.
 Locke Street Fair

Enjoy a day in the historic and picturesque Locke while checking out vintage and handcrafted goods and live music. This event is family-friendly and free.
 Oaktober Harvest Festival
Saturday, October 22 12 PM to 4 PM
Civic Center Plaza, Oakley
This year the City of Oakley is revamping the fall festival to include beer and wine, a family-friendly costume parade, the iconic canine parade, a pumpkin decorating contest, and more! Stop by Civic Center Plaza to celebrate the fall season with over 30+ vendors, food trucks, and more Oaktober Harvest Festival entertainment.
 Souls of the City 2022
Saturday, October 22 5 PM to 10 PM
Old Sacramento Waterfront, 2nd Street, Sacramento
Souls of the City returns to Old Sacramento for Dia De Los Muertos for the first time since 2019. Sol Collective and The Sacramento History Museum re-welcome the city’s biggest Day of the Dead festival on the Old Sacramento Waterfront with traditional art, altars, sugar skulls, and lowriders.
 Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) Weekly Report
There is currently a "Danger" level Harmful Algal Bloom at the Big Break Regional Shoreline Boat Launch. The California State Water Resources Control Board advises individuals to stay out of the water, not touch the scum on the water or shoreline, keep pets out of the water, and not eat shellfish from the waterbody.
There are "Caution" advisories in the following areas:
- Three-Mile Slough
- False River
- Fisherman’s Cut
- Franks Tract
- Old River at the following locations: between Franks Tract and San Joaquin River, Clifton Court Intake, downstream of ORT barrier, Mountain House, Tracy Wildlife Association, near Doughty Cut, and head of Old River
- Holland Cut
- Middle River at the following locations: near Mildred Island, Tracy, Howard Road, and Undine
- Turner Cut
- San Joaquin River at the following locations: Windmill Cove, Stockton Rod and Gun Club
- Buckley Cove Boat Launch
- Smith Canal near American Legion Park
- McLeod Lake at Morelli Park and by Joan Darrah Promenade
- Mormon Slough
- Victoria Canal
- West Canal
- Grant Line Canal near Old River and East of Temporary Barrier
