It may be hard to believe, but the holiday season is already here. Ensure that when you celebrate with loved ones, you do so in a manner than protects those around you. COVID-19 is still a cause for concern, and it will take the collective effort of everyone to ensure we continue to make progress in ending the pandemic. If you want to meet with family indoors and without masks, get vaccinated now, if you have not already done so. |
|
|
Additional measures to keep you and your loved ones safe include:
- Keeping gatherings small
- Ensuring all guests are vaccinated
- Plan gatherings outdoors and social distance when possible, especially when around those who are older or immunocompromised
- If gathering inside, ventilate well. Open doors and windows, run HVAC systems, and install high-quality air filters.
-
Check local conditions. Your county may have stricter guidance than the state. Take extra precautions when local levels of virus transmission are high.
-
Activate CA Notify and ask your guests to do the same. CA Notify anonymously notifies individuals of a possible exposure.
-
Get tested if you have COVID-19 symptoms
- Stay home if you are sick

This Native American Heritage Month, we honor the first peoples and original stewards of the lands and waters of what is now California. California is home to the largest population of Native Americans and we’re stronger because of our deep relationships and partnerships with the tribal nations and Native communities that have called this land home since time immemorial.
Check out KCET’s “Tending the Wild” short video series on California Native American people, environmental knowledge, culture, and connection to the land and natural resources. Videos can be viewed here: Tending the Wild | KCET

Former Foster Youth Find their Way with the CCC
Corpsmembers come from all backgrounds. All walks of life. For some the journey has been more than a challenge. It’s just plain been hard. Yet in the CCC, they can all learn, earn, and grow. For those who are emerging from foster care, the CCC is providing them with new opportunities and in a fertile environment. A place to rest their head. A chance to achieve. At last, a family where they can belong. Just a year in the CCC is allowing these amazing young adults to transform their lives. Hear their stories by visiting the CCC's website.
If you know of a person or group that has stepped up in an extraordinary or unexpected way, we want to feature them. Please share uplifting and inspiring people – sharing, giving, sacrificing – to Mark Borges.

CNRA Executive Analyst Mark Borges captured this image at sunset near Avila Beach in San Luis Obispo County. A prescribed burn was occurring in the mountains nearby, creating a cascade of colors among the smoke. |

In this Day in the Life, we're highlighting Cara Allen, Senior Environmental Scientist with the Wildlife Conservation Board! After almost six years between the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) and the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) working as an environmental scientist, Cara felt ready for the next step in her career. When the Wildlife Conservation Board (WCB) opened Cara’s current position, she knew she had to apply. |
|
In her current role, Cara helps the WCB’s partners develop meaningful habitat restoration projects that benefit natural processes, wildlife, and people. “I enjoy developing projects with our partners and presenting those projects to the board of WCB for funding approval.” We want to thank Cara for her time investing in protecting and enhancing the biodiversity of California. |

Telework Tip
Take Micro Breaks and Stretch. Micro breaks of just 30-45 seconds can relieve eye strain when staring at a computer screen all day. Incorporating frequent stretching can also help to reduce discomfort throughout your day.
