Temporary Alternative Flow Proposal Approved for Shasta River, Alternative Flows Start Today
The State Water Resources Control Board (State Water Board) is temporarily amending Addendum 4: Reinstatement of Conditional Curtailments for Most Junior Water Rights in the Shasta River Watershed, to authorize alternative flows recommended by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW), pursuant to Section 875(c)(2)(D) of the Emergency Regulation. The temporary amendment begins today, August 20, 2025 (Day 1 of the adjusted schedule).
CDFW submitted a letter to the State Water Board requesting implementation of alternative flows over a 15-day period in the second half of August. The proposal includes a range of flows from 40 to 60 cubic feet per second (cfs) as noted in Table 1 below with Day 1 starting today.

This temporary amendment expires at the end of the day on September 2, 2025 (or earlier if CDFW notifies the State Water Board that the alternative flows should be suspended due to negative impacts of reduced flow). The flow requirements in the Emergency Regulation shall resume upon expiration of this temporary amendment.
