Funding Opportunity to Improve Farming Practices, Improve Water Quality, and Conserve Clear Lake Hitch
Funding may be available for people interested in implementing conservation practices that would benefit the Clear Lake Hitch.
The Lake County Watershed Protection District* is working on a project that would secure funds for Clear Lake area landowners who implement conservation practices that improve water quality and quantity. Some examples of conservation practices are improving stream crossings and unsurfaced roads near creeks, reducing soil erosion with cover crops, or fencing to limit livestock access to waterways. A list of conservation practices can be found on the NRCS website. Crop land, range land, and forested properties are all eligible.
If you are interested, please fill out the survey below by January 31, 2024. Survey responses will be used to help the county determine how much funding is needed for the project.
If you have any questions about the survey, conservation practices, or resources available to landowners, please reach out to Angela De Palma-Dow with the County of Lake Water Resources Department (Angela.DePalma-Dow@lakecountyca.gov | (707) 263-2344) or Erica Lundquist with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (erica.lundquist@usda.gov | (707) 262-7091).
*The County is working with the Lake County Natural Resources Conservation Service, and consultants with the California Rural Water Association on the project.
