City Council Update
The City Council met twice in November, and took a major step forward in the project to replace the new Heather Farm Aquatic and Community Center by awarding a contract to Lathrop Construction for work on the new facilities. The construction is within the budgeted amount and the project is on track to be completed by the end of 2027.
The Council also reappointed a number of City Commissioners and discussed an update to the sign ordinance.
The Council meets next tomorrow, December 2. This is the time when the Council does its annual reorganization, with a rotation of our Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem.
You are welcome to attend our meetings in person, or watch on Walnut Creek TV, YouTube live, or video on demand through Roku, Amazon Firestick, or Apple TV. Find out more meeting details by visiting our public meetings and agendas webpage.
City receives a AAA bond rating
The City of Walnut Creek has been awarded an overall “AAA” credit rating and a “AA+” long-term rating for the City’s $55 million lease revenue bonds. These are the highest ratings available and were awarded after after a thorough review by S&P ratings agency. The City is going to issue revenue bonds to finance some of the costs of building the new aquatic and community center at Heather Farm.
Mayor Cindy Darling is proud of the City’s actions. “Walnut Creek is a safe, well-run city where we pride ourselves on our ability to provide amenities in a cost-efficient manner. Our bond rating demonstrates that, showing a track record of financial stability and a commitment to ensuring Walnut Creek remains the jewel of the east bay.”
The "AAA" bond rating is reflective of Walnut Creek’s long history of sound financial management. This rating will result in the lowest interest rates available, which will be beneficial to this project and to the community.
The “AAA” rating signals the City’s exceptional financial health and lowest possible credit risk.
