Traffic Advisory: Surface Treatment Work Coming to Walnut Creek
Contra Costa County Public Works will be overlaying various residential roads in Walnut Creek through Friday, October 31, 2025, weather permitting.
Work is taking place Monday through Friday, from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, excluding holidays. Traffic control and message boards are in place to minimize impacts during commute hours.
Drivers should expect delays in the construction zones and consider alternate routes during working hours. This project is funded by the SB1 Road Repair and Accountability Act and is intended to enhance and extend the life of the existing roadway network.
Modifications to Heather Farm Pond & Nature Lake
As part of the ongoing improvements to the Heather Farm Pond and Nature Lake, the project team has made significant progress in recent weeks. The pond has been fully drained, and crews are currently removing material in preparation for structural backfill, which will support the foundation of the future community center building.
In addition, the contractor is actively working on expanding the nature lake by shifting the shoreline and removing approximately 12,000 cubic yards of soil to create a larger, more natural habitat. Throughout construction, biologists have been on-site to ensure the protection of local wildlife, and work is being closely monitored by an archeologist and representatives from the Lisjan Nation to safeguard any cultural resources that may be uncovered. Construction is on track for completion by mid-October.
Tice Fields Lighting update
The Tice Ball Field Lighting work is complete, thanks in large part to Measure O funding. The project included the installation of four light poles at the corners of the Tice Valley Park field. Large LED fixtures were installed at the tops of the poles to illuminate the field for athletic play, and smaller fixtures were installed lower on the poles for pathway illumination. The LED fixtures allow for the light to be precisely directed at the field while minimizing spilling into the surrounding areas. The construction contract is scheduled for City Council acceptance on September 2, 2025.
Synthetic Turf Fields Update
In another project with funding from Measure O, the Heather Farm Park Synthetic Sports Fields Project is progressing and remains on track for completion by the end of November. Crews are currently installing new fencing around Fields 1 and 2, and concrete foundations are being poured to support upcoming site improvements. In the coming weeks, the contractor will begin fine grading the fields to ensure proper drainage and create a safe, high-quality playable surface. Following the grading work, installation of the synthetic turf will begin, with delivery of the turf materials expected by the end of August. Check back next month for photos of the work in progress.
