City Council Update
The next City Council meeting will be on Tuesday, July 15, beginning at 6:00 p.m. On the agenda will be presentations from the two County Supervisors who represent Walnut Creek, Ken Carlson and Candace Andersen. The Walnut Creek Downtown Association will also give an overview of its Summer Arts Program.
In June, the Council approved the City's budget for the upcoming two fiscal years, which begin on July 1. This year's budget was a bit more of a challenge than in recent years, but we have a balanced budget that will support work on the City Council's strategic priorities. The Council also issued a proclamation for Juneteenth, and hired a contractor for the first phase of the project to replace the aging aquatic and community center in Heather Farm Park.
You are welcome to attend our meetings in person, or watch on Walnut Creek TV, YouTube live, or video on demand through Roku, Amazon Firestick, and Apple TV. Find out more meeting details by visiting our public meetings and agendas webpage.
Larkey Park Neighborhood Traffic Safety Open House
On June 11, the City held a neighborhood traffic safety open house at the Lindsay Wildlife Experience. Staff from Public Works and the Police Department hosted multiple stations, including a mapping exercise for residents to identify locations where they have traffic safety concerns. More than 100 people attended; their feedback is being consolidated and staff will work with neighborhood leaders to prioritize long term improvements.
This type of community engagement and education is part of the Traffic Engineering division’s Neighborhood Streets Program, in partnership with Walnut Creek Police Department. Additional open houses will be planned in the future in other neighborhoods. Find out more online about our traffic safety program.
Tice Valley Park Sports Field Lighting Update
The contractor for the Tice Valley Park Athletic Field Lighting Project has completed installation of the field lights along with the associated conduits, wiring, lighting controller, and service meter. PG&E is scheduled to be onsite in early July to complete the construction, connecting power to the service meter. The lights are expected to be turned on shortly after PG&E completes its work, and the contractor will make the final adjustments to the light fixtures for adequate light coverage, completing the Tice Valley Park Athletic Field Lighting Project.
This is among the first capital projects funded largely by Measure O. Other capital projects underway include installing artificial turf fields at Heather Farm Park, and replacing the aging aquatic and community centers at Heather Farm.
