City Council to meet twice in September
Join our City Council Tuesday, September 14, as the City recognizes the heroic efforts of one of our Police Officers who saved a resident whose vehicle plunged into a neighborhood swimming pool. The Council meets again on September 21, when members will receive an update on staff work in support of the Council's five key priorities. While our City Council members have returned to City Hall for their public meetings, we encourage members of the public to continue to participate in whatever format works best for each person. Our meetings are broadcast live on Walnut Creek TV, streamed live on our website and YouTube, and also on Zoom, which enables the public to provide comments. Visit our public meetings webpage for agendas and instructions on how to participate.
Jamie Knox sworn-in as Walnut Creek Police Chief
Jamie Knox took his formal oath on Tuesday, August 31, to officially be recognized as the City's 15th Chief of Police. Members of the City Council, Police Department and other City staff, as well as representatives from a wide variety of law enforcement organizations were on hand for the event. City Manager Dan Buckshi introduced the Chief to the audience, and Mayor Kevin Wilk offered some thoughts about the new PD leadership. If you would like to see the ceremony, you can watch it on the City's YouTube page. An opportunity for Walnut Creek residents to meet the Chief will be coming soon. Welcome Chief Knox!
Community Service Day: Saturday, October 9
Last year, the Walnut Creek Civic Pride Foundation had to pivot the annual Community Service Day event into a food drive, which turned out to be incredibly successful. The Foundation sponsored a much-needed food drive this spring as well. Community Service Day is back this year, with a variety of outdoor projects available for residents to get outside and give back to our Walnut Creek community. Help clean up and beautiful our parks, community centers, schools and gardens. A food drive will also take place, with drop-off locations at 8 area grocery stores. Interested in participating? Visit the Community Service Day webpage for details and to register.
