walnut creek city managers update - from the desk of city manager dan bukshi

September 2020

Just when it seems like we have had our fill of new challenges, wildfire season arrived early in the Bay Area, causing destruction and devastation for so many.  Our City family was also touched, with a Police dispatcher losing her home to the fires in Solano County.  On top of COVID-19 and the economic and social pressures the coronavirus has caused, the difficulty of living in 2020 can feel overwhelming at times.  There is no-cost, around the clock help available.  Visit the regional 211 website for a wide variety of support services, or simply pick up the phone and dial 2-1-1.  Help is a phone call or mouse click away.

COVID

State and County Health Order updates: a few steps forward, a few steps back

The State has overhauled its COVID-19 response, with each of the 58 counties now assigned a color tier based upon its rate of new cases and positive test results, to determine which sectors of the economy can operate.  Contra Costa, unfortunately, falls into the least-safe tier, with many non-essential indoor business operations remaining closed.  On the positive side, if you haven't had a hair cut in months, indoor and outdoor hair salons can now operate.  Indoor shopping malls can open with limited capacity.  And, if you are a member of a gym or fitness center, they can now operate outside, offering a variety of options not available since March.  It can be confusing determining what is open and what is not; visit the County's coronavirus website for answers to frequently asked questions, or call their hotline at (844) 729-8410.

Sustainability Action Plan: your voice matters

The City of Walnut Creek wants your feedback to shape the new Sustainability Action Plan.  The Sustainability Action Plan will provide the City’s vision and strategies to ensure a sustainable and resilient Walnut Creek, building upon the City's 2012 Climate Action Plan. It will continue and strengthen citywide efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to address climate change, helping us understand how we can stay healthy and safe in a future climate. The Plan will also address other key sustainability topics, such as equity, air pollution, water conservation, and waste.

Give your input on the first phase of this plan by taking this quick survey.
