walnut creek city managers update - from the desk of city manager dan bukshi

May 29, 2020

We are seeing some positive signs of activity in our community as curbside retail pickup is now available at many businesses.  The latest County Health Order allows for many businesses that didn't meet the "essential" designation to re-open.  You can see our list of open businesses on our website, and if you are a business owner who has begun serving customers again, please share your details there.

We expect additional Health Order changes in the coming weeks, but it is important to note that the current order does not have an expiration date. We will post information on our City website as Orders are amended, in addition to including them in these updates.

Please forward this email to others who might want to receive our City updates, and encourage them to become subscribers.  The registration page can be found by selecting the eNotifications link on the upper right corner of our homepage

City Council meets Tuesday, June 2

Zoom Council

The City Council will meet Tuesday evening at 6:00 p.m., and will spend considerable time providing feedback on proposed budget reductions that amount to $12 million in cuts.  Difficult decisions are ahead for the City Council, and we recognize City services and programs will not be provided at the same level as in recent years.  We encourage you to watch our meetings, and participate as well.

Our public meetings are now conducted using Zoom videoconferencing.  Public comments are encouraged both before and during our Council meetings.  Please visit our public meeting webpage to view the agenda and Council reports, to provide public comment in advance of the meeting, or to learn how you can participate during the meeting.

Call for an appointment to get tested: coronavirus testing available to all residents

testing info

One of the key indicators that will allow for more flexibility in the County Health Orders is the rate of testing for coronavirus.  Early on, it was very difficult to get a test, even if you were showing symptoms.  Now, we have the capacity for people to get tested whether or not they have symptoms.  You can call 1-844-421-0804 between 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. seven days a week to make an appointment at a drive through center.  You can also make an appointment online to visit one of the three walk-in sites.

Learn more about testing on the State's COVID-19 testing and treatment website.

Summer camps return - with safety in mind

Summer Camps

The City of Walnut Creek's summer camps are starting to take shape, and with enhanced safety protocols, we expect to begin to offer camps in late June and early July.  These will include our popular preschool camps, as well as those for older kids and some specialty programs.

Visit our Arts and Recreation webpage for details and to register.

Senior services available

Neighbor Express

We recognize that sheltering at home has been difficult for everyone, but our seniors in particular may need an extra hand.  The City is updating our senior and social services online, and we also invite you, if you are able, to offer to lend a hand.  Find out how you can help, or ask for help if you need it, by visiting our website.
