walnut creek city managers update - from the desk of city manager dan bukshi

May 24, 2020

Curbside pickup is now available at many retail locations in Walnut Creek, as the coronavirus data monitored by the Contra Costa County Health Officer has shown enough improvement to allow for additional relaxation of the current shelter at home order.  You can find the details, including updated answers to frequently asked questions, on the County's coronavirus website.

We expect additional Health Order changes in the coming weeks, and will post information on our City website as they happen, in addition to including them in these updates.  Please forward this email to others who might want to receive our City updates, and encourage them to become subscribers.  The registration page can be found by selecting the eNotifications link on the upper right corner of our homepage

City Council update

Zoom Council

The City Council met twice over the past week, focusing primarily on the City's finances and how to jump-start the City's economy. The Council approved revenue assumptions and projections for the fiscal year that begins on July 1, and work is well underway to finalize the budget for adoption next month.  The Council supported staff-developed recommendations to encourage economic development in the coming weeks and months.  We will be looking at creating additional space for outdoor dining and retail, dedicated space for curbside pickup, responsive parking and traffic management and more.  An ad hoc committee of Mayor Loella Haskew and Councilmember Cindy Silva will begin working to provide guidance.

Your input on these issues is always welcome.  Our public meetings are now conducted using Zoom videoconferencing.  Public comments are encouraged both before and during our Council meetings.  Please visit our public meeting webpage to view the agenda and Council reports, to provide public comment in advance of the meeting, or to learn how you can participate during the meeting.

Memorial Day

The City's longstanding tradition of hosting a Memorial Day ceremony in Civic Park is not going to be paused because of the coronavirus.  The in-person event is replaced this year with an hour long commemoration to be broadcast live Monday on Walnut Creek TV, our City YouTube channel and on our website.  Walnut Creek TV is found on Comcast Channel 28, Ch. 26 in Rossmoor, AT&T U-Verse Channel 99 and WAVE Channel 29.  Please join us in paying tribute to those who gave their lives while serving our country.

Let our farmers market come to you

Farmers Market

Missing the experience of wandering through the Farmers' Market on Sunday and catching up with neighbors, friends and vendors?  Farmers' markets throughout the County are still operating, although with some changes.  Masks are required, and social distance monitors will be on the scene in Walnut Creek to make sure people are not crowding together.  Many of our residents aren't able to shop at our Farmers' Market at all these days.  In partnership with the Walnut Creek Farmers' Market, the City's Arts + Rec staff are coordinating with community volunteers from Neighbor Express to deliver pre-packaged boxes to residents.  Find out more at the City's coronavirus website.

Call for an appointment to get tested: coronavirus testing available to all residents

drive through test

Key to knowing what success looks like in battling the coronavirus is vastly increasing the number of people tested in our region.  You can now schedule an appointment for a COVID-19 test without a doctor's referral or showing any symptoms.  Call 1-844-421-0804 between 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. seven days a week to make an appointment.  There are multiple drive through testing locations, as well as several walk-in ones, including one at Tice Valley Gym.

You can also learn more about testing on the State's COVID-19 testing and treatment website.
