I hope this finds you and your family safe and healthy. This has been another long week as we continue to revise our expectations of what "normal" looks like for those of us in Walnut Creek. What stands out to me is the extraordinary way people are stepping up to help others. Thank you for continuing to look out for family, friends, and neighbors. We have heard from many people who want to help. You'll find some ideas below with new City initiatives that will give you information on how you can help others, or request help for yourself.
Please forward this email to others who might want to receive our City updates, and encourage them to become subscribers. The registration page can be found by selecting the eNotifications link on the upper right corner of our homepage. At the bottom of this announcement, you will see our social media channels. We encourage you to follow the City of Walnut Creek on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram.

We are grateful to the many essential businesses that are staying open during this challenging time. It can be difficult to know which grocery stores, restaurants, pharmacies, hardware stores and other businesses are open, and what their hours are. Walnut Creek is making it easier for you. We have launched a new searchable, map-based website that will let you find out if your favorite restaurant is offering takeout meals, if your car repair shop is open, and where you can get groceries. Visit our Essential Business webpage for details. |
City launches "Neighbor Express" to help seniors needing meals; find out how you can help as well
Do you need help with meals or shopping? Anyone in Walnut Creek who is at extra risk from COVID-19 can ask for delivery help in our new "Neighbor Express" website. We've partnered with Meals on Wheels Diablo Region to offer meals for homebound seniors. If you can't get out to shop, we will match you with someone who can.
And if you're healthy and trying to figure out what you can do to help your community, Neighbor Express is for you, too. Visit our website and find out how you can donate your time and become a Walnut Creek Neighbor Express volunteer.
Request a meal, a delivery, or just a helping hand -- we're here for you.

City Council update: next meeting, April 21
The City Council met remotely on Tuesday, April 7, via Zoom video conferencing. I was able to share an update on the impacts of the COVID-19 outbreak to our City, and how we are keeping programs and services going. Police Chief Tom Chaplin also shared public safety issues, and Assistant City Manager Teri Killgore provided an update on the economic impacts to our community.
It is important for the City Council to continue to operate and act on issues that are time-sensitive. We recognize that public participation will be different, but we still welcome your comments and have taken steps to ensure your voices can still be heard. Please visit our public meeting webpage to watch meeting online, and to see how you can provide input for our next meeting on April 21.

Most city facilities are closed until further notice, but the work of City government continues. Many of our employees are working harder than to provide services in new ways, make decisions on how to best operate our programs, and plan for the future. While City Hall may look empty and our public buildings are closed to the public, the Governor's Executive Order and the extension of the previous Public Health Officer's Shelter in Place at Home Order enables essential operations to continue. The latest order extends the stay-at-home date through May 3, and further clarifies what businesses are and are not essential. In Walnut Creek, our police officers are still patrolling, and hundreds of City workers are working remotely to provide services.

Although I shared this last week, if you didn't get a chance to see it, I wanted to provide the link to a video message from Walnut Creek Mayor Loella Haskew. She wanted to share her thoughts with our Walnut Creek community. You can watch her message on the City's YouTube channel and our other social media pages. |
City and County websites providing frequent updates
The City is working closely with the County Health Services Department for updates on the outbreak of the virus and its impacts. The City has launched a one-stop shop website for information about affected programs and services, and offers other resources for residents that are specific to our community. You can also find links to critical information from the CDC and other public agencies. For the latest on the local impacts of the virus, as well as guidelines enacted under the Public Health Officer's Shelter in Place at Home order, we encourage you to regularly visit the County's coronavirus website.
