I am proud to live and work in a City where our residents and our City staff are trying to get used to the new "normal," even as we recognize that conditions are changing rapidly as we all face challenges from the coronavirus outbreak.
We are working closely with the Contra Costa County Health Officer to interpret and share Health Orders and Executive Orders from the Governor. We are adding information to our website and social media channels daily. And we're still working to provide you services and programs as much as possible.
It is my commitment to share updates frequently with our residents. Please forward this to others who might want to receive our updates via email, and encourage them to become subscribers. The registration page can be found by selecting the eNotifications tab on the upper right corner of our homepage. At the bottom of this announcement, you will see our social media channels. We encourage you to follow the City of Walnut Creek on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram as well.
I hope you and your family are staying safe and healthy.

Walnut Creek Mayor Loella Haskew wanted to share her thoughts with our Walnut Creek community. You can watch her message on the City's YouTube channel and our other social media pages. |
Most city facilities are closed until further notice, but the work of City government continues. Many of our employees are working harder than ever providing services in new ways, making decisions on how to best operate our programs, and planning for the future. While City Hall may look empty and our public buildings are closed to the public, the Governor's Executive Order and the extension of the previous Public Health Officer's Shelter in Place at Home Order enables essential operations to continue. The latest order extends the stay-at-home date through May 3, and further clarifies what businesses are and are not essential. In Walnut Creek, our police officers are still patrolling, and hundreds of City workers are working remotely to provide services.

City Council to meet by videoconference on Tuesday
The City Council will be meeting on Tuesday, April 7, and once again we will be holding the meeting remotely via Zoom video conferencing. It is important for the City Council to continue to operate and act on issues that are time sensitive.
We recognize that public participation will be different, but we still welcome your comments and have taken steps to ensure your voices can still be heard. Please visit our public meeting webpage to see the agenda, and to find out how you can participate. We also encourage you to view the meeting online from that same webpage or on Walnut Creek TV.

City and County websites providing frequent updates
The City is working closely with the County Health Services Department for updates on the outbreak of the virus and its impacts. The City has launched a one-stop shop website for information about affected programs and services, and offers other resources for residents that are specific to our community. You can also find links to critical information from the CDC and other public agencies. For the latest on the local impacts of the virus, as well as guidelines enacted under the Public Health Officer's Shelter in Place at Home order, we encourage you to regularly visit the County's coronavirus website.

Senior services highlighted, and the City's "Virtual Community Center" is open for business
We recognize that our senior community is particularly at risk during this crisis, and there are essential services that are important to still be available. We are continuing to update our Senior Resources webpage with information on special store hours and other services exclusively for our senior residents.
The City's community center programs may not be available in the way they have been, but our Arts + Rec team is busy gathering activities, resources and ideas to help you manage through the outbreak. Take a virtual museum tour with your family, borrow an electronic book from the library or dive into information about how to manage stress during what is an incredibly stressful time. Find all of these and more in our Virtual Community Center. Have any ideas ideas on what you'd like to see there? Drop us an email and we will continue to grow our online options.
