Today is election day in California and 13 other states, and I hope you have had a chance to vote or plan on doing so today. If you usually vote by mail, you can drop your ballot off at the secure ballot box outside of City Hall up until 8:00 p.m. today. It's available for any Contra Costa voter, not just those who live in Walnut Creek. Questions about your ballot, your registration status or anything else election-related? You can call the County Elections office at 925-335-7800, or visit the Elections website.

Census 2020 - keep an eye out for an invitation to respond
Every ten years, the U.S. Census takes place, with the count of residents to determine Congressional representation, help plan for needed schools and infrastructure, and allocate critical federal funding to communities. The 2020 Census will have something new -- an online application option. You can expect to receive a letter later this month explaining where you can fill out the form online, or give you options to respond by phone, or request a paper form. Questions about the Census? You can get your answers at the City's Census 2020 website.

What catches your eye about a sign in front of a store or business? Designers work hard to attract your attention, and therefore business, but they need to so within local guidelines. The City of Walnut Creek is updating its sign regulations for the first time in almost 30 years. The new sign regulations will continue to reflect the community’s values for an attractive physical environment, while also maintaining a competitive edge in the business world, and allowing creativity in sign design. Mark your calendar: A Beautiful Mess opening reception, April 9, 6:00 p.m.
From micro artworks the size of your hand to mammoth room-sized installations, the national roster of artists in A Beautiful Mess push the boundaries of their textile-based medium. Using rope, yarn, clay and wire, this group of conceptual artists knot and twist their media into sculptures that range from minimal and hyper-organized to utter pandemonium. They explore personal and political ideals — order and chaos to the extreme — and freely break the rules to create their beautiful artworks. Serious about making a strong cultural and intellectual impact, this group deftly weaves their message into works that demonstrate extraordinary technical skill.
