December 2016
Walnut Creek is the ideal place to be home for the holidays. Choices abound, from taking a winter's walk in the Open Space to taking in a festive show at the Lesher Center for the Arts. Some are listed in the "Events" section of this newsletter; for more ideas, check out the "Holiday Happenings" in the most recent edition of the Nutshell newsletter.
Here at City Hall, we are working on a number of interesting initiatives, but also preparing to close down for the winter holidays. Most City facilities, except for public safety, will be closed Dec. 23 through Jan. 2, reopening on Tuesday, Jan. 3.

 Take the North Downtown survey
Thanks to the 60 people who participated in the community workshop on the North Downtown Specific Plan. As we continue to plan for this important 180-acre area, it's important to get ideas from across the community.
That's why we've created an online survey that asks community members to share their ideas for the future of the North Downtown. Take a few minutes to share your vision! Click here for the survey.

Council to decide whether to scale back Crogan's hours
On Monday, Dec. 5, the City Council is expected to decide whether to uphold a Planning Commission recommendation that Crogan's Sports Bar and Grill stop serving and selling alcohol at midnight and close at 12:30 a.m. The Planning Commission found that Crogan's, as operated, constitutes a public nuisance and unanimously voted to scale back operating hours. The owner of Crogan's is appealing the Planning Commission decision, asking instead that it be able to serve/sell alcohol until 12:30 a.m. and stay open until 1 a.m. The Dec. 5 meeting is a continuation of a public hearing held before the City Council on Nov. 15.
