Walnut Creek hosts City Showcase open house on August 13
Find out what makes Walnut Creek work at a free City Showcase open house on Saturday, August 13 from 9 a.m. until noon.
Go backstage at the Lesher Center for the Arts, get up close and personal with giant street-sweeping machines, get an insider's perspective of what happens on WCPD's Bomb Squad, and more! Every department will be on hand to meet and greet the community.
City Showcase activities will take place at City Hall, corner of Civic and Broadway, and the Lesher Center for the Arts, corner of Civic and Locust.
North Main Street between Civic and Bonanza will be closed to traffic starting at 8 a.m. to accommodate displays of street sweeping machines, dump trucks and other Public Works equipment. It will reopen by 1 p.m.
The line-up of tours and activities includes:
- · Meet the Mayor at City Hall
- · Be in a commercial for Walnut Creek TV
- · See the high-tech Traffic Signal Master in action
- · Find out about major development projects
- · See the WCPD Bomb Truck and meet their K9s
- · Check out Public Works trucks
- · Take a self-guided backstage tour at the Lesher Center
- · Free admissions to the Bedford Gallery “Flux” exhibition
- · Art projects for kids
Be sure to fill out a City Showcase passport (available day of event in the City Hall lobby and in front of the Lesher Center) for a #WalnutCreekWorks water bottle (while supplies last).
Ample parking is available at the Locust Street garage, and the first hour is free!
