Animal Services
Pet Safety:
Fourth of July and the days leading up to it can be a stressful time for pets. Here are a few safety tips to help keep your furry friends safe!
- Plan extra exercise for your dog during the day on July 4.
- Provide a safe and familiar environment for sleeping. Try to filter out the sounds outside. Close the windows and curtains to minimize noise and flashing lights. Provide background noise such from a TV, radio, AC, or fans.
- Calming products are worth a try.
- Try desensitizing your dog by playing a recording of firework noise while doing something fun with him, so he learns to associate the noise with good things.
- Update your pet's ID tag and microchip information. List multiple emergency contact numbers so you have a better chance of being reunited with your pet if they get loose. Pets are known to instinctively run far away from noise.
As a reminder, we encourage residents to call our Animal Services to report stray dogs in the City of Victorville rather than bringing them to the shelter. For your personal safety, please don't try to capture stray animals.
For more information or to report/search for a lost dog, visit vv.city/animalcare or call (760) 955-5089.
