We hope you’ll join us on Jan. 16 at our Civil Rights Memorial from 10 a.m. to noon as we celebrate the winner of our Annual Civil Rights Memorial Essay Contest, Natalia Jackson.
Natalia will read her winning essay that honors Frances Ellen Watkins Harper, a noted author, poet, and equality rights activist.
A portion of Natalia’s winning essay will appear on a bronze plaque that will be installed at our Civil Rights Memorial.
This celebration is part of Delta Theta Sigma’s Annual MLK Memorial event.

Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday
In honor of the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday, City of Victorville offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 16. We invite you to join us as we commemorate his extraordinary life during Delta Theta Sigma’s Annual MLK Memorial event from 10 a.m. to noon at City Hall.
Normal business hours will resume Tuesday, Jan. 17.

Tower Four Graduation
Last week, we celebrated the graduates of our Victorville Fire Tower Four Graduation!
For eight weeks, these Victorville Fire recruits were put to the test, and we know they are ready to serve our residents.

Shred-Fest, Compost Giveaway, and Recycling Event: Feb. 4
Are you looking to off-load some of your old paperwork, TVs, appliances, mattresses, and more? Take advantage of the FREE Shred-Fest, Compost Giveaway, and Recycling Drop-off at the Victor Valley Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) on Saturday, Feb. 4 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
This event will feature drive-thru document shredding, a compost giveaway, E-waste and appliance disposal, and free mattress and box spring recycling. All activities are FREE and open to residents of the High Desert.
The Victor Valley MRF is located at 17000 Abbey Lane in Victorville, just off Stoddard Wells Road.

Local Hazard Mitigation Plan
We are in the process of conducting an annual review of our Local Hazard Mitigation Plan, and we are seeking input from our community.
This plan guides city-wide efforts to reduce the risk of hazards such as flooding and earthquakes. We have launched a short survey on our website and anyone who lives or works in Victorville is encouraged to complete it by Feb. 15 at VictorvilleCA.gov/LHMP.

Victorville City Library Programs
TEEN Tech Space
We’re excited to introduce our new Teen Tech Space for ages 12 and up at our Victorville City Library!
Join us on Jan. 26 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and make something neat on our 3D printer! We’ll also have an Oculus available for use by ages 13 and up.
Monthly STEAM Programs
We have two great STEAM programs for children and teens at our Victorville City Library.
Our Monthly STEAM for children ages eight and older will be on Feb. 13 at 4 p.m. Join us and participate in a Sink the Boat activity.
Teen STEAM for ages 12 and up is Feb. 8 at 4:30 p.m., and we'll be making an LED jellyfish.
