Last week, we announced the recipients of our first-ever Fire Academy Scholarship.
Maurice Buckner and Austin Almendarez received full-ride scholarships from the City of Victorville to cover all expenses associated with the Victor Valley College’s Fire Academy, which they successfully completed last month.
We’re proud to collaborate with the Victor Valley College Foundation to establish these scholarships to invest in future fire service leaders to provide top quality public safety services for our growing community.

Civil Rights Essay Contest Winner
Congratulations, Natalia Jackson!
Natalia, a sixth grader at Irwin Academy School of Performing Arts, won our Annual Civil Rights Memorial Essay Contest!
We hope you’ll join us at City Hall on Jan. 16 at our Civil Rights Memorial as we unveil a bronze plaque honoring the subject of Natalia’s winning essay, author, poet, and equality rights activist, Frances Ellen Watkins Harper.

Interim Victorville Fire Chief
Earlier this week, we announced that William "Willie" Racowschi, a 35-year veteran of the fire service and retired Torrance Fire Chief, will serve as Interim Victorville Fire Chief effective Dec. 31. Racowschi will serve as interim chief while we conduct a nationwide recruitment for our fire chief.
Racowschi has proven skills in emergency management, safety, tactical response, technical rescue, communication, administrative management, recruitment, and training.
Racowschi will assume command from Brian Fallon who accepted the fire chief position with a small fire department on the Central Coast, a location where he and his family have always hoped to relocate.
Please join us as we welcome Chief Racowschi to Victorville. We wish Chief Fallon the best of luck in his new life endeavor.

Holiday Closures
City Hall will be closed for the holidays beginning Dec. 23 with normal business operations resuming on Jan. 4.

Festival of Lights and Tree Lighting

Curbside Christmas Tree Pickup
Wondering what to do with your old Christmas tree? Victorville residents of single-family homes with curbside trash service can take advantage of our Curbside Christmas Tree Pickup Service, Jan. 2-13. Remove all decorations and place your tree curbside on your normal pickup day. Cut the tree in half if it's eight feet in length or longer.
Flocked and artificial trees must be cut down to fit in carts or scheduled as a bulky item pickup through Victorville Disposal (760) 245-8607.

Community Cleanup Day
We would like to give a huge Thank You to the fantastic volunteers & sponsors who helped make our Community Cleanup Day in October a great success.
625 volunteers braved the cold and worked together to collect 1,560 bags of litter around Victorville.
With the help of our sponsors, we were able to provide supplies to our volunteers. Thank you Walmart, Excel Scientific, Mojave River Watershed Group, ICR Staffing Services, Sunland Ford, Les Schwab Tires, Christian Covenant Church, US Air Force JROTC, and High Desert Association of Realtors.
