Victorville Fire Receives Grant to Purchase LUCAS Chest Compression Device
Recently, our Victorville Fire Department was awarded a $20,000 grant from the CARESTAR Foundation to fund the purchase of a life-saving mechanical chest compression device known as the LUCAS.
The LUCAS device improves patient outcomes for adults suffering from a medical cardiac arrest while reducing strain and risk to the caregiver. As the device provides chest compressions, first responder hands are free allowing them to perform other life-saving interventions.
We are grateful to the CARESTAR Foundation for this grant that is enabling our Victorville Fire Department to provide the highest level of emergency medical service to our residents and broader community.
As part of our broader effort to provide enhanced emergency medical services, we plan to purchase seven additional LUCAS devices to outfit our fire apparatus. The additional devices were approved by our Victorville City Council in our recently adopted budget for Fiscal Year 2021/2022, including one device that will be funded with revenue generated by Measure P.
