Sunday, April 27, 1:30 to 3 p.m.
The City Nature Challenge (CNC) is an international event, motivating people around the world to find and document wildlife in and around their cities, using biodiversity recording apps and platforms like iNaturalist. CNC is an annual four-day global urban bioblitz from April 25 to 28 where cities are in a collaboration-meets-friendly-competition to see not only what can be accomplished when we all work toward a common goal, but also which city can gather the most observations of nature, find the most species and engage the most people in the event.
Visit us in the Fiction Room to learn how to take part in CNC. We'll give you a brief tutorial on using the iNaturalist app to get started. After you learn how to record and share your nature observations, we'll head outside to explore the wild plants and animals around the library!
Registration is not required.
Monday, April 28, 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Join us in the Program Room for a lightly moderated discussion of death over tea and snacks, led by local end-of-life doulas Ka Yun and Annie.
At a Death Café, people—often strangers—gather to discuss death. We invite people in all phases of life to come talk about death and dying in a supportive, unstructured way. It is a discussion group rather than a grief support or counselling session.
This program is for adults only. Registration is not required.
Saturday, May 3, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
Celebrate Asian-American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month with a performance by the Firebird Youth Chinese Orchestra.
Firebird Youth Chinese Orchestra (FYCO) is a unique artistic and educational organization in the San Francisco Bay area. With only 13 young musicians, FYCO was founded in 2000 by the Chinese music educator Gordon Lee, and it’s predecessor was Lee’s private studio Eastern Music Center, which started in 1995. Currently, FYCO has five groups consisting of the Earth, Metal, Water, Wood, and Fire with over 100 students playing traditional Chinese instruments. Most of them are American born Chinese youths ranging from 7 to 18 years of age.
This program is for all ages.
Registration is not required. Arrive early as seats will be limited.
