SAFETY AND SOBRIETY CHECKPOINT
SUNNYVALE, Calif. – On Friday, March 28, 2025, the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety will operate a safety and sobriety checkpoint. The primary purpose of the checkpoint is to promote public safety; increase awareness of the dangers associated with drinking and driving; and serve as a deterrent to potential impaired drivers.
Vehicles traveling southbound on Mathilda Avenue between Olive Avenue and El Camino Real will be randomly stopped and drivers will be evaluated to determine their sobriety. Officers will also look at the safety of the vehicle, use of seatbelts and the validity of the operator’s license. The checkpoint is scheduled to operate from 8 p.m. until 3 a.m.
Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
