The tallest mountains on Earth are found in the Himalayas, a spectacular mountain range extending through Tibet, China, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan and India. Learn more about art from this part of the world through objects from the Asian Art Museum, many of which reflect Tibetan Buddhist beliefs and practices. Colorful and complex mandalas; fierce and sometimes gruesome protective deities; serene and unworldly Taras; ritual implements made of human bones; and exquisite hanging scrolls that aid meditation — these are just a few of the types of art produced in what some call the roof of the world.
This one-hour online lecture by Asian Art Museum community speaker docent Mary Mead is followed by a Q&A.
Mary Mead was born and raised in Japan, which instilled in her a love of Asian cultures. After a start as a high school teacher, Mary taught world and comparative religions at the university level. Now retired, she still teaches the occasional course, travel permitting. Mary holds a PhD and five Masters Degrees and has been a docent at the Asian Art Museum for over ten years.

Please arrive on time to ensure your spot. Waitlisted registrants will receive the Zoom link a couple minutes after the program begins.
