Congratulations to Fumi Asami!
Fumi Asami, Senior Center member and Table Tennis player, has lived in San Jose and Tokyo for many years. At the age of 77, she first picked up a table tennis paddle and began playing the sport as a hobby. She immediately fell in love with table tennis and continued playing regularly, except for nearly 3 years during the pandemic when she was forced to stop playing in Tokyo. In 2022, Asami resumed playing table tennis in Tokyo. In July 2023, she qualified for the National Senior Games in Pittsburgh, PA where she won bronze in singles and gold in doubles in the 85-89 age group. In October 2023, Asami competed at the Huntsman World Senior Games in St. George, Utah. There, she won silver medals in both the singles and doubles table tennis competitions in the 85-89 age group.
"Behind every champion is a team that prepared them to become that champion."
