Hello, Suisun City!
For this November edition of the Suisun City Scoop, we are excited to highlight our Suisun City Recreation, Parks and Marina Department!
Last month, the Recreation, Parks and Marina Department offered a variety of programs and events for the community. The Police Activities League (PAL) ran art, nutrition, cooking and kickboxing classes for Suisun City youth. PAL also hosted the annual Pumpkin Carving event, which drew a record 150 attendees and featured a craft room and petting zoo.
Students in the After School Programs at Crescent and Dan O. Root Elementary Schools enjoyed festive Halloween parties with costumes, pizza, games and themed crafts, while preschoolers took part in yoga sessions and a Spirit Week that featured a lively costume parade. Seniors enjoyed a variety of activities last month, including trips to the San Francisco Ferry Building, Loteria Night and a festive Halloween Social with food, karaoke and a costume contest.
This month, the department is working to ensure every senior in our community enjoys a happy and delicious Thanksgiving, with volunteers delivering free Thanksgiving meals to seniors living in Suisun City. Thank you to all the volunteers who are making this possible and for bringing kindness, care and holiday cheer to our community’s seniors!
Warm regards,
Janet Hull Recreation, Parks & Marina Department Director City of Suisun City

This month, we would also like to highlight the newly completed Suisun Marsh Mural. Led by Lead Artist Ross Holzman and Assistant Artist Rachel Brown, the mural was created by 400 Crystal Middle School students, staff and community members in partnership with the Create Peace Project. It was officially dedicated by the 2025 Suisun City Council and Beautification Advisory Committee. We are thrilled with the outcome and extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed!

Development Services
This month, Suisun City’s Development Services department continued advancing key projects and initiatives, including the Council-approved McCoy Creek mixed-use project and updates to the municipal code to align with the new California Building Code. Staff are also working on a coffee drive-thru proposal, which will be under Planning Commission review next week.
Throughout November, recruitment and process improvements remain a priority for the department, with efforts underway to finalize a background check for a new Code Enforcement Officer, interview a potential Permit Technician and fill an Administrative Technician position. The department aims to be fully staffed by 2026!

Fire Department
Last month, the Suisun City Fire Department hosted its Annual Halloween Parade, welcoming families, friends and community partners to celebrate with costumes and community spirit. A special thank you to the firefighters, volunteers and City staff who made the evening safe and enjoyable for everyone.
SCFD is also proud to announce an improvement in the City’s Insurance Services Office (ISO) Public Protection Classification, which has been upgraded from a Class 4 to a Class 3 rating, effective Oct. 1. This achievement reflects ongoing improvements in emergency communications, fire operations, water supply and community risk reduction and can lead to reduced property insurance costs for residents and businesses.

Police Department
This month, the Suisun City Police Department welcomed three new Public Safety Dispatch Trainees: Patricia Merical, CarolAnn Martinez and Ronald Butts. After completing orientation, they will begin a five-month communications training program, during which they will learn all aspects of public safety dispatch. We wish them success and look forward to seeing the positive impact they’ll make in the Suisun City community!
The department also celebrates Sergeant Heine, who graduated from the Sherman Block Leadership Institute (SLI) last month. This eight-month program develops leadership, ethical decision-making and management skills through intensive coursework and a team project. Congratulations to Sergeant Heine for this achievement.

Public Works Department
This month, the Public Works Department continued key projects across Suisun City. Significant progress has been made on the Traffic Signal Improvements Project, with the Traffic Management Center (TMC) now fully online. Heritage Park improvements, including a new basketball court, walking paths, picnic areas and ADA-compliant features, are on track for completion by February 2026.
The Sewer and Storm Drain Lining Project has wrapped up, rehabilitating over 10,000 feet of sewer lines and improving storm drain outfalls south of Highway 12. Pedestrian safety upgrades at Marina Boulevard/Lotz Way and Pintail Drive/Cackling Drive are also nearing completion, with new crosswalks, signage and curb extensions being installed.
