Hello, Suisun City!
This October edition of the Suisun City Scoop happens to fall during National Crime Prevention Month, and we are excited to highlight our Suisun City Police Department, whose ongoing efforts in public safety and community outreach continue to make a lasting impact in our neighborhoods.
The Suisun City Police Department is proud to share recent progress in its efforts to integrate drone technology into public safety operations. In preparation for this initiative, several team members have since passed the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) exam for drone operator certification and are now officially licensed to fly drones for the department. This technology has already enabled SCPD to capture aerial footage during National Night Out and document a cleanup operation with significant debris and encampments.
Looking ahead, SCPD is developing a “Drone as First Responder” program. This will provide faster visual access to the scenes of high-priority calls, which can help officers assess situations more efficiently. This new capability is expected to enhance response times and officer safety, particularly in incidents such as shootings, robberies or arson. SCPD is excited to bring this innovative approach to community safety and looks forward to the positive impact it will have on the quality of life in Suisun City.

City Manager's Office
Thank you to everyone who joined us for Suisun City’s first Community Conversation! The event brought the community together for a discussion on the annexation process and what it could mean for the future of Suisun City. The session featured an overview of expansion efforts to date and attendees participated in a productive question and answer segment where community feedback was encouraged and welcomed.
The City is pleased to invite you to the second Community Conversation, taking place on Monday, Oct. 27 at 6 p.m. at The Vault (700 Main St STE 102). This interactive and collaborative workshop will focus on how expansion could improve commercial and economic development in Suisun City.

Development Services
Last month, Suisun City’s Development Services Department provided the City Council and community with an update on key development projects. Expansion of community services in Suisun City is coming soon as construction of a new dental office nears completion.
The Department also highlighted development projects under review, such as the potential creation of a downtown entertainment zone, which would allow for public consumption of alcoholic beverages in designated areas. This proposed ordinance intends to support downtown businesses and enhance the visitor experience. A second reading of the ordinance is expected later this year. If approved, the ordinance will take effect 30 days after final adoption.
The City is working with a well-known coffee franchise interested in opening near the Sunset Shopping Center. This project is scheduled for review by the Planning Commission on Oct. 28.

Fire Department
On Oct. 4, the Suisun City Fire Department (SCFD) hosted the “Suisun City Strong: Emergency Preparedness Fair & Open House" at The Salvation Army Kroc Center in Suisun City. Community members, partner agencies and local organizations came together to support emergency preparedness and resilience efforts throughout the city. At the event, Mayor Pro Tem Jenalee Dawson presented a proclamation recognizing Fire Prevention Week, observed Oct. 5–11. This year’s campaign, “Charge into Fire Safety™: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home,” aims to raise awareness about the safe use of lithium-ion batteries, emphasizing safe practices when buying, charging and recycling.
SCFD extends its thanks to all participating partners for their role in keeping the Suisun City community informed and prepared for emergencies.
The Suisun City Fire Department also welcomed five new reserve volunteers last month and conducted a five-day in-house academy to train the new members with the support of Fire Captain Dean Martin and fellow staff members.
