Greetings, Suisun City!
This June, Suisun City is proud to recognize two important celebrations: Pride Month and Juneteenth. The City Council has issued official proclamations honoring our LGBTQIA+ community and commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. We’re also taking a moment to celebrate all the father figures in our community – Happy Father’s Day!
As we head into summer, our City departments and leaders have been busy with exciting developments and accomplishments. On June 6, Mayor Alma Hernandez and Vice Mayor Jenalee Dawson accepted the Napa-Solano Central Labor Council’s Spring Salute Award for Labor Partnership in Solano County, an important recognition of our City’s ongoing collaboration with local labor organizations.
In this edition of the Suisun City Scoop, learn more about:
- Recent service activity from the Fire Department
- Seasonal maintenance work and project progress from Public Works
- New Police Department team members and highlights from National Police Week
- Recaps of fun events and previews of what’s ahead for Recreation, Parks & Marina
We hope you’ll join us for the festivities we have planned for this season. Check out the events section of the website for more details. We’re excited to keep you informed and connected through the Suisun City Scoop.

On May 22, SC Firefighters noticed an attempted theft taking place at the fire station and aided Suisun Police in response to the incident, which is now under investigation by SCPD. The department had a wonderful time this month, engaging with students at Crescent Elementary and offering public safety and emergency preparedness training to the community at Connections For Life.

Public Works Department
Public Works has been active this month with landscaping, irrigation repairs, and several ongoing improvement projects, including the now-completed Main Street Traffic Calming Project. The City secured nearly $350,000 in HSIP funding for safety improvements and submitted a grant for speed radar signs near Suisun Elementary. The Heritage Park Project is out to bid, and Republic Services rate negotiations are nearing completion, with a public hearing set for September 2. Lastly, the City’s new Public Records Request portal is now live, streamlining access to public documents for the community.

The Suisun City Police Department welcomed two new officers in May — Officer Tristan Pongrujaporn and Officer Thomas Letterman — bringing the department’s total to 26 sworn officers and strengthening Suisun’s commitment to community safety. During National Police Week, several Suisun City residents stopped by the SCPD station with treats and messages of appreciation. The department extends a heartfelt thank you to the community for their kindness and continued support. |

Recreation, Parks and Marina Department
May was a busy month for Recreation, Parks & Marina. Afterschool programs are running smoothly and summer camp registration is officially open! Preschool wrapped up with fun water play days, a Mother’s Day picnic and a pre-K graduation, while PAL staff prepared for summer with 11 upcoming youth programs. Seniors enjoyed two field trips, tech workshops and a well-attended Spring Dinner Dance. The department also mailed its summer “Playbook” activity guide and opened registration for the June 28 Suisun City Fit Youth Run.
Volunteers helped plant 50 fruit trees at Prosperity Garden Park, and a new rain garden is underway at the Nelson Center. Lambrecht hosted multiple tournaments, and Junior Giants baseball is fully booked. Waterfront events included Cinco de Mayo, the Mother’s Day Artisan Fair and the 40th Annual Mustang Car Show. The Joseph A Nelson Community Center brought in over $56,000 in revenue in May! Marina staff removed three vessels through the Surrendered and Abandoned Vessel Exchange program, completed fuel station inspections and are currently hiring a new Marina attendant.
