Hello, Suisun City!
I’m Janet Hull, the Recreation, Parks & Marina (RPM) Director for Suisun City, and I’m excited to share this month’s City Scoop spotlight on the RPM Department.
The Recreation, Parks & Marina Department plays a vital role in connecting our community through engaging programs, inclusive services and vibrant events along our beautiful waterfront. Whether it’s youth sports, senior activities, community celebrations or creating welcoming spaces for all to enjoy, we are proud to support the well-being and connection of Suisun City year-round.
Our team is also gearing up for a fun-filled summer season! From concerts and family movie nights to expanded programs and waterfront festivities, we’re excited for what’s ahead.
Here are just a few exciting updates from our Department:
- The Marina is excited to welcome our new Marina Manager, Joseph Gatemen. Joe brings over five years of experience in recreation, events and community programs. He’s passionate about connecting with people and has a soft spot for food festivals and Halloween fun!
- Suisun City RPM was awarded a major contract to operate afterschool programs at Crescent and Dan O. Root Elementary Schools. The programs will serve up to 480 students and generate over $1.5 million in revenue — an exciting opportunity to expand our impact in youth services.
- Construction at Prosperity Garden Park is moving forward with a target of opening this June. Thanks to a new fruit tree grant, 40 to 60 fruit trees will be planted in the back half of the park, with a community planting day and giveaway planned for May 29.
Thank you for your continued support of parks and recreation in Suisun City. We look forward to seeing you at our programs, events and parks this spring and summer!
Warm regards,
Janet Hull Recreation, Parks & Marina Director City of Suisun City

Development Services Department
A Good Neighbor Meeting was held on April 14 for the proposed 20-unit Awanta Apartments project at 400 Main St., and staff is now reviewing the meeting materials to prepare draft conditions of approval ahead of a Planning Commission hearing. Additionally, staff is in early discussions with a developer about a potential drive-thru coffee project near Highway 12 and Tractor Supply, though no formal application has been submitted yet.

Suisun City Police Department
Over the past nine months, Community Services Officers (CSOs) have towed 424 vehicles and issued hundreds of warnings, citations and vehicle notations for code violations, improving the gap in enforcement over the last few years.
CSOs are active in the community addressing issues such as abandoned vehicles, inoperable cars and those parked for over 72 hours. Their hard work is helping to improve the safety and appearance of Suisun City, and we’re grateful for their continued efforts.

Public Works Department
To enhance pedestrian safety, new red curb painting is underway near crosswalks, funded by a Safe Routes to School grant. On Main Street, traffic calming efforts are in progress, with crews installing speed radar signs, rumble strips and other safety features. At the intersection of Grizzly Island Road and Anderson Drive, new channelizers have been added to improve traffic flow and safety. Additionally, the 2025 Landscaping and Lighting District (LLD) meetings have concluded, and the public can now watch the meeting videos online.

Recreation, Parks & Marina Department
Suisun City’s Recreation, Parks & Marina Department is making big moves this spring. We’re thrilled to expand afterschool programs at Crescent and Dan O. Root Elementary Schools, offering academic support and enrichment for up to 480 students. PAL is growing too, with more youth joining, school visits underway and CPR training provided to local students. Park upgrades are progressing at Montebello Vista and Heritage Park, with exciting features like synthetic turf and new sports courts. At Prosperity Garden, we’re preparing for a community fruit tree planting event on May 29.
Our preschoolers are embracing the season with hands-on learning about plants, experiencing the joys of gardening and watching their seeds grow.
A special welcome to Joe Gatemen as our new Marina Manager. Joe brings fresh energy and experience to our waterfront programs and special events.
