ACA 7

On April 25th, Assemblymember Kevin Mullin came to speak to the Youth Commission about ACA 7. Which, if brought into law, would allow for 17 year olds, who will be 18 by the general election, to vote in primary elections. At the SMC Showcase on May 23rd, Youth Commissioners will be discussing this bill, as well as AB 1266 , and voting to encourage the Board of Supervisors to write letters of support for these items. AB 1266 would allow for youth to participate in sex-segregated activities within schools irrespective of their listed gender.

Youth Forum on the Human Trafficking of Minors

A completely sold out event, the Youth Forum featured five different San Mateo County and Bay Area experts on trafficking of minors. Hosted by the SMC Youth Commission, this event brought to light the trafficking of minors here in our community. Handed out at the event, was a bookmark highlighting the signs and symptoms of trafficking, as well as resources in the bay area. If you would like to 'order' some of these bookmarks created by the SMC Youth Commission, email brook.costello@star-vista.org. Click here to view photos from this event.
