We hope you're doing well and staying warm despite the chilly weather. The Youth Commission has been very busy in the past few months as our subcommittees are starting to put together their projects. New this year is our commission-wide event: Civic Café!

Again, our full commission meets on the second Thursday of each month, and we encourage community members to join us and share their voices.

Are you a young person who wants to make a difference? Do you want to make change using your local government - but you’re not sure how? If so, join us in Redwood City on January 31st, 2026 for the Civic Cafe event! In just three hours, you will get a chance to participate in workshops, discuss with fellow youth, hear an inspirational yet short keynote with Q&A, and more. Free lunch and refreshments. Are you a nature-loving 10 to 21-year-old looking to earn service hours?

If so, hop aboard the Nature Bus! Leaving from Redwood City on January 24 and January 25, 2026, we'll get a chance to earn six service hours, win free prizes, network with environmental professionals, make friends, and most of all enjoy nature! In December 2025, the San Mateo County Youth Commission convened for their annual Winter Retreat. At the event, youth commissioners wrote letters and packed gifts for youth in juvenile detention and collected winter clothing donations for youth in need.
