County of San Mateo Board Meeting Update: August 12, 2025

The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors met in-person with remote public participation available via Zoom on Aug. 12, 2025. Below are the results of selected items on the agenda:

PRESENTATIONS AND AWARDS  

  • Presentation and recommendations from the Independent Civilian Advisory Commission (ICAC) to Establish an Inspector General for Independent Oversight of the Sheriff's Office.

The Board of Supervisors listened to the presentation. See Presentations and Awards, Item No. 2, for more information.

HUMAN RESOURCES

  • Adopt a resolution authorizing approval of an amendment to the current Memorandum of Understanding with the Law Enforcement Unit for the term of December 24, 2023, through December 18, 2027.

The Board of Supervisors voted 5-0 to adopt the resolution. See Regular Agenda, Item No. 6, for more information.

PUBLIC WORKS

  • Introduction of an ordinance amending Sections 2.55.030 (Competitive bidding on construction or repair contracts - when required), and 2.55.040 (Informal bidding ordinance), and adding 2.55.050 (Adjustment) to Chapter 2.55 (Procedures for Contracting for Public Projects) of Title 2 of the San Mateo County Ordinance Code to be consistent with recent amendments to the California Public Contract Code and waive the reading of the ordinance in its entirety.

The Board of Supervisors voted 5-0 to approve the introduction of the ordinance. A second reading for adoption will be at subsequent meeting. See Regular Agenda, Item No. 7, for more information.

BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

  • Adopt a resolution affirming the County’s commitment to preventing youth nitrous oxide abuse and directing the County Executive’s Office to have prepared an Ordinance banning the sale and distribution of nitrous oxide and to explore other actions that further protect youth from nitrous oxide abuse.

The Board of Supervisors voted 5-0 to adopt the resolution. See Regular Agenda, Item No. 11, for more information.
