Dear Friends and Neighbors,
This summer, our focus has been clear: protecting the most vulnerable in our community, especially children, families, and those at risk of exploitation.
At the June 10th Board of Supervisors meeting, I was proud to join Supervisor Jackie Speier in securing $160,000 in Measure K funds to launch a Human Trafficking Cybercrimes Unit within the District Attorney’s Office. Human trafficking is happening right here in San Mateo County, often hidden in online platforms. With major global events like the Super Bowl and World Cup coming to the Bay Area next year, we must act now to prevent a surge in exploitation. This new unit will help us track down traffickers, protect victims, and bring justice to those responsible.
But keeping our communities safe takes many forms. We’re also tackling the rise in youth abuse of nitrous oxide, or “whip-its,” by advancing a countywide ban on recreational sales. On the South Coast, we’re making sure residents, especially farmworkers and families using wells or creek water, have the tools and support they need to ensure their drinking water is clean and safe. And in response to a rise in residential burglaries, we’ve launched San Mateo County’s first-ever burglary reward program—offering financial incentives for tips that lead to arrests, and empowering residents to take an active role in public safety.
These efforts are united by a simple goal: a safer, healthier San Mateo County for all. I’m grateful for your continued support and look forward to sharing more progress soon.
As always, thank you for your continued support. I’ll keep you updated as this program gets underway.
