Health Chief Louise Rogers Retires From County Health
Louise Rogers, chief of San Mateo County Health, retired after a decade leading the County’s largest department with more than 2,000 employees. Rogers first served as assistant director of Behavioral Health and Recovery Services in 2002. She was appointed chief of County Health in 2015. The Board of Supervisors at their March 25 meeting honored Rogers for her public service and legacy uplifting the vulnerable. “I think the role that I’ve been able to play is really working on creating a more welcoming experience for the people that we serve,” said Rogers.

County Health Welcomes New Health Chief Colleen Chawla
Colleen Chawla is succeeding Louise Rogers as the director of San Mateo County Health with a $1.3 billion budget. Chawla comes to County Health from Alameda County Health, where she served as agency director from 2017 to 2025. She previously worked in leadership and legislative roles at the San Francisco Department of Public Health. "I intend to get out and see what we do across the county. I want to hear from our staff and community partners that do the work and from the people they serve. There is no substitute for going and seeing," said Chawla

County Invests $4.5 Million in Early Childhood Education
To address a shortage of credentialed early childhood educators, the County is investing up to $4.5 million in funds from Measure K funds to help pay for tuition, internships and other supports for trainees as well as veteran educators seeking advanced credentials over the next three years. County Supervisors on Feb. 25, 2025 approved funding three contractors that will support residents in obtaining their credential. Additionally, Supervisors at their March 25 meeting approved funding for at-home child care providers in an agreement with the Child Care Coordinating Council.

Sheriff's Office Introduces New Crime Data Portal
The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office has launched a new and improved crime data portal, providing community members with crime and arrest data at their fingertips. Through the newly launched CitizenRIMS portal, which replaced a previous portal, community members can search for crime data by date, location and type of crime throughout the Sheriff’s Office jurisdiction. Users can also search for arrest data through the portal, which also provides the option for community members to sign up for daily or weekly alerts sent straight to their inbox.

Registration Now Open for County Career Fair
Job seekers will have the chance to meet and network with professionals and hiring managers from every County of San Mateo department at the County of San Mateo Career Fair. With a "live here, work here" theme, the event is open to all and will be held on May 2 at the San Mateo County Event Center. Attendees will also have the opportunity to gain valuable career advice from panels and guest speakers, take a free professional headshot and learn about programs and services that impact residents. The County hires for a variety of roles in fields such as healthcare, public safety, technology, finance and more.
