Emergency Managers Offer Safety Tips for Winter Storms
Multiple storm systems with heavy rain and strong winds are expected to hit San Mateo County through the weekend, prompting local emergency managers to provide tips on how to keep you and your family safe. All residents are encouraged to sign up for SMC Alert, the County’s primary alert and warning system. The County also provides a list of sandbag locations for residents within cities. Additional safety tips include clearing gutters and storm drains, preparing for possible power outages and driving carefully on wet roads.

Elections Office Begins Audit Process of March 4 Votes
Semi-official election results for the March 4, 2025 Special Election on Measure A (County Charter Amendment) are now available here. Post-election, the state requires the County to randomly select 1 percent of all counted ballots and hand count them. Elections officials began gathering the selected ballots for manual tallying on March 12. This process is expected to take one to two days. Voters whose Vote by Mail ballot envelopes did not pass the signature verification process have until April 1 to sign the envelope. Final results will be certified and published on April 3, 2025.

Measure K Annual Report Presented to Supervisors
The Measure K Oversight Committee presented its annual report – tallying Measure K revenues and expenditures – for the 2023-24 fiscal year to the Board of Supervisors at their March 11 meeting. The County invested $50 million from the Measure K sales tax to build and protect affordable housing & prevent homelessness in the 2023-24 fiscal year. In total, the County spent $124,185,522 in Measure K funds during the 2023-24 fiscal year. The County tracks all Measure K funds to enhance transparency & accountability.

County Parks Launches 2025 Take a Hike Challenge
San Mateo County Parks' annual Take a Hike Challenge kicked off this month with the first hike of seven taking place at Quarry Park in El Granada. Future hikes include Pillar Point Bluff, Huddart Park, Sawyer Camp Trail and more. Those who complete all seven hiking routes are eligible to win prizes. Participants can hike designated routes on their own or join park rangers the first Saturday in April-September. Registration for each hike opens on the first of each month. Deadline to complete the challenge & claim prizes is Oct. 31, 2025.

Exhibit Shines Light on What Women Artists View in 2025
Women’s View 2025, an exhibition celebrating Women’s History Month, is now on view through March 30, 2025, at the Twin Pines Art Center in Belmont. Sponsored by the San Mateo County Office of Arts & Culture, Arts Commission and Commission on the Status of Women, the exhibit features 61 works by women artists who live or work in San Mateo County. Works of art include landscapes, abstracts, portraits, photographs and textiles, portraying what women artists view in 2025.
