We are excited to announce that the County of San Mateo Jobs for Youth Summer Internship program will return this summer!
The County of San Mateo Jobs for Youth Summer Internship places Jobs for Youth Members who are between the ages of 18-21 in County Departments for 8-10 weeks. The JFY summer internship program provides young adults the opportunity to develop employment skills, and obtain exposure to career fields of interest! Internships start in June or July.

Requirements: San Mateo County resident, JFY Member*, 18 to 21 years old

Duration: June through August (approximately 8-10 weeks)

Hours: Flexible based on department need (between 20-40 hours/week)

Location: Positions are available in several Departments and may include placements in Belmont, Daly City, East Palo Alto, Half Moon Bay, Menlo Park, Redwood City, San Carlos, San Mateo, and South San Francisco.

After submitting your documentation, *please register for one of the mandatory virtual Jobs for Youth Summer Internship orientations/workshops at the following link. There will be one last orientation session March 10, 2025!
Once you have attended the orientation, we will send you a personal link to complete an application. Please note that applications will be reviewed by County departments on a first come first served basis, so we suggest completing an application ASAP to remain competitive.

We are excited to announce that we are accepting applications for the Supported Training & Employment Program (STEP).
STEP is designed for current or former foster youth aged 18-27 who are transitioning into the workforce. The goal of the program is to introduce these young adults, who are at risk of underemployment, to the professional work environment. STEP offers paid internships and employment skills training to help participants gain valuable experience and enhance their job readiness.
We offer STEP Intern positions in various departments and locations throughout San Mateo County, including the Human Services Agency, Human Resources, Parks Department, Health System, and more! Youth in guardianship who meet the qualifications are also encouraged to apply.
Program Requirements:
- Be between the ages of 18-27.
- Be a current or former foster youth (including guardianship).
- Have been dependent on the court for at least one day after your 13th birthday.
- Currently live in San Mateo County or have previously received foster care services there.
- Hold a High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Be available and willing to work 20 hours per week (with a maximum of 1,040 hours per year).
