French toast, fajitas, flight talk, and much more are why diners love the Sky Kitchen Restaurant at San Carlos Airport (SQL). Heavenly aromas of freshly brewed coffee and breakfast on the griddle awaken the senses and welcome customers, whether the regulars or those dining for the first time.
Since 2010, Simer Mann and Paul Sidhu have owned and operated the Sky Kitchen, buying it from the former owners who operated it for 25 years. However, the restaurant was known to Simer, an aviation enthusiast, before that as he used to hang out there. Read more...

What better time to feature Airport Operations and Maintenance Supervisor Stefan Varholik than on his recent promotion to the position.
A Bay Area native, born and raised in Newark, CA, Stefan’s early years were spent playing ice hockey. His other passion—aviation—led Stefan to earn degrees in Aviation Engineering and Business Aviation at San Jose State University.
Since 2022, Stefan has worked his way through a specialist role and is now a supervisor, overseeing operations and maintenance team members, and managing from an internal compass of resourcefulness and continuous improvement. Read more...

Half Moon Bay Airport (HAF), a gateway to many beautiful and welcoming coastal towns, is a favorite destination for pilots, especially during clear-weather patterns. While flight training is a joy for pilots, it can impact HAF neighbors, particularly when pilots practice touch-and-go operations.
Airports’ staff ask pilots (when practical and safe) to limit the number of touch-and-go operations at HAF to five (5) or fewer per flight. Read more...

A Julie of All Trades
Aviation alumnus Julie Clark began her incredible aviation journey at the San Carlos Airport. However, her journey to achieving her childhood dream of becoming a commercial airline pilot was filled with challenges.
Growing up in the Bay Area with her sisters, Julie faced adversity early on when tragedy struck her family. In 1963, her mother passed away unexpectedly, leaving Julie and her sisters and dad to navigate through the loss. The following year, Julie's father, who was a commercial pilot, tragically lost his life in a hijacking incident on board an aircraft. Read more...

It's Spring and Birds Are Getting Busy on the Coast
The Devil's Slide Seabird Nesting Area, located five miles north of Half Moon Bay Airport (HAF), is a year-round home to thousands of seabirds. During the spring they are extra busy, laying eggs, hatching chicks, and growing their families. These seabird colonies are sensitive to aircraft overflight. Therefore, pilots flying in this area are asked to fly at or above 1,000 feet to reduce the potential for seabird disturbances. Read more...
