Hello JFY Community!
Happy August! As the beginning of the academic year emerges, we acknowledge that this can present an array of different emotions. Some of you may be eager to reconnect with classmates and visit teachers from the previous school year. However, some of you may be wishing that the summer months were longer. There is no right way to feel! Reconnecting with friends prior to the start of school and securing a support system for the first few days back may smooth the transition back. Regardless, be kind to yourself as you adjust to a new routine in the next few weeks!
Readjusting your summer-to-school routine may be difficult, but here are a couple tips you could potentially implement to best support yourself in the new year.
Sleep is very important. Sleep deprivation can hinder your alertness and overall mood. If you are able to, we encourage you to go to bed just 30 minutes earlier in the next few weeks, so you can start a new habit before the school year. Hooray if you are already getting your 8 hours every night!
If you currently attend a public or charter school, you qualify for two FREE meals. We encourage you to take advantage of this and eat a yummy breakfast and lunch!
As the start of the school year approaches, we want to ensure that our JFY members feel readily prepared in every facet. Whether that is ensuring that your basic needs are met or you that you feel mentally ready to return to school, we got your back. We also have a plethora of upcoming community events near you if you want to unwind and connect with others (events are listed in lower section)!
