San Mateo County, California no topic Update

You are subscribed to no topic for San Mateo County, California. This information has recently been updated, and is now available.

Hello - you are on a new San Mateo County VSO mailing list, either because you subscribed directly or your email address has been passed to us from a trusted partner. We, the VSO office, will use this list to send out occasional (~ monthly) news and updates for veterans, families and partners in the SF Bay Area (all counties have access to a VSO but all veterans are welcome to call us, no matter where they live).

This is a General mailing list. Please note that we have an Employment mailing list also, available for sign up on this page: https://hsa.smcgov.org/veterans-employment

Upcoming:

(1) 7/13/2020 - Veterans Commission meeting, see: https://hsa.smcgov.org/veterans-commission-meetings

(2) Many of you will shortly receive a "Check-In" postcard from the VSO. Once you've read it please pass it on to any veteran, family member, or organization who you think may not be aware of VSO services. We're actively seeking email contacts for all veterans as it's the most efficient way to stay in contact.

Finally, here is a GI Bill email from the VA that's worth forwarding in full as it contains some very useful information.

Best Wishes from

SM County VSO Outreach

Celebrate the 76th Anniversary of the GI Bill Today

Greetings GI Bill Students,

As we celebrate the 76th Anniversary of the GI Bill today, we are proud to see the impact and reach the GI Bill has had nationwide. We thank you for your service and for embarking on your education journey with us.

Throughout this year, we have been able to accomplish quite a bit at Education Service. We implemented Monthly Housing Allowance changes in accordance with Sections 107 and 501 of the Colmery Act; completed year one of our VET TEC pilot program; approved nearly 2,000 Edith Nourse Rogers Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) Scholarships; announced a recommended School Certifying Official to GI Bill student ratio; launched a dedicated phone line for survivors; and much more.

While exploring these successes and the GI Bill’s national reach, what comes to mind most recently is our commitment to communication. From engagement with the community on our GI Bill School Tour to emergency support during COVID-19, communication has been key. We invite you to explore our products and guides listed below. Our hope is that you can leverage them to achieve your educational goals.

  • “Building Your Future with the GI Bill” series

  • Postcard Series
    • STEM Postcard: provides helpful scholarship information including eligibility requirements, how to apply and program benefits to GI Bill students in an engaging style.
    • VET TEC Postcard: highlights program details, and eligibility requirements.
    • Yellow Ribbon Postcard: details program information such as application steps, and program benefits for GI Bill students looking to attend an Institution of Higher Learning.

  • TED Transition Talk
    • Charmain Bogue discusses the GI Bill, Colmery Act, education resources and more in this recently launched Transition Assistance Program video series.

We look forward to your continued success using the GI Bill and thank you again for your service.

Respectfully,

Education Service
