SMCAlert, San Mateo County's opt-in public alert and warning system, recently surpassed 100,000 registrants, according to the County's Office of Emergency Services. The alert and notification system is the tool to keeping residents informed of fires, earthquakes, tsunamis, extreme weather, roadway closures, natural or manmade disasters, and utility disruptions such as the recent PG&E power shut off that affected approximately 15,000 PG&E customers in San Mateo County.
