Did you know? There are only six more days until it's officially Spring. We don't know about you, but over here at Jobs for Youth, we cannot wait for the weather to warm up. We're dreaming of beaches... and flowers... and Spring Break...

We're also dreaming about all the exciting opportunities coming up throughout the Peninsula this month. Take a look!

JFY SUMMER INTERNSHIPS

Become a paid Summer Intern with the County! 

Are you curious about a career in local government? Are you between the ages of 18 and 21? If so, consider applying for our paid Summer Internship! We are accepting applications NOW through May.

The Summer Internship pays $16 per hour and will last 8-10 weeks. Internships begin in June and may be located in any of the following locations: East Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Redwood City, San Carlos, Belmont, San Mateo, South San Francisco, Half Moon Bay, and Daly City. Positions are available in several Departments.

To begin the application process, email jobsforyouth@smcgov.org with a cover letter, resume, and the names of three references.

Not 18-21 but know someone who is and wants to work with us? Have them email us at jobsforyouth@smcgov.org for more info. (All Summer Interns must be Jobs for Youth Members. Individuals can become members by attending a workshop.)

WORKSHOPS

We will be hosting a workshop at the Human Resources Department in Redwood City on March 19th, 2019 from 4:30-05:30pm! This workshop is open to all San Mateo County youth between the ages of 14 and 21.

Youth Learning and Outreach Intern

San Mateo County Libraries are seeking 50 qualified students who are in high school or college for a 10 week internship starting in June.

Pay:$16 per hour

Hours: 20 hours per week

The Math Center is looking for individuals who are at least juniors in high school to teach 1st graders - high schoolers the ropes of learning math!

Pay:$13.50-$16 per hour.

COMMUNITY EVENTS

Edgewood 2nd Annual Career Fair

Opportunities for participants (18-25 year olds) to explore different career paths by way of hearing first-hand from someone in their desired industry.

Date: March 14th, 2019

Time: 4-6 pm

Venue: 604 Price Ave, Suite A, Redwood City, CA 94063 

Healthy Kids Wellness Days Fair 

A fair to educate and provide resources for kids and their families on health, nutrition, education and physical fitness available in the county.

Date: March 26, 2019

Time: 5:30-7:30 pm

Venue: Fair Oaks Elementary School (2950 Fair Oaks Ave, Redwood City, CA 94063)

 


RESOURCES

San Mateo Credit Union has two $3,000 scholarships available! The application is open! 

To be eligible, you must be a: 

  • 2019 graduating senior, or 2018 high school graduate enrolling in a college/ technical school for the first time
  • Must apply to an accredited college or technical school for the Fall 2019 term
