Fantasy of Lights 2024
Celebrate 26 years of Fantasy of Lights with Santa Clara County Parks! First presented in 1999, Fantasy of Lights is now in its 26th year and has become a cherished Holiday tradition. Enjoy a magical evening in the warmth of your vehicle as you drive through large, animated displays while listening to holiday music on your car radio, or bask in the warm glow of the holiday lights as you leisurely stroll through the park with family and friends. See the sights and sounds of an erupting volcano as dinosaurs stroll by, cheer on Santa shooting hoops, wave at a pen of playful penguins, watch blazing pirate cannons and sail through tunnels of moving lights. Over 50 themed displays and a 90-foot glowing tree will have you “oohing and aahing” throughout your adventure.
Role of Men Workshop Series
The Public Health Department’s Role of Men program offers a 6-week “24/7 Dad” workshop from November 5 through December 8. This free class will be offered every Tuesday (virtual) over six weeks, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Each session will discuss subjects that men feel they need to improve upon to be better partners, parents, and better for themselves overall. Topics include communication, dealing with emotions, healthy relationships, discipline, your children’s growth, a man’s role in parenting, self-care and more. All men of any ethnicity or race, 18 and up, are welcome.
Please share this with any fathers, fathers-to-be, men who want to be fathers, men who are a father figure in a child’s life, or men simply looking to improve themselves or correct generational curses. (That includes uncles, grandfathers, stepfathers, and others!) This program is open to the public, and the attached flyer has more information on the workshop series.
Monthly Gilroy Walking Groups

Nurse Claudia Rossi, RN from Bay Area Community Health provides a 15-minute presentation regarding a relevant health topic prior to leading a 45-minute walk around the park and the residential area. Our goal is to motivate patients and residents to increase their physical activity and connect with others to improve their wellbeing. Please see attached flyer for monthly walk schedule. For more information or to attend please contact Victoria Partida at 408-817-6902. Please help share this opportunity with the community.

December Themes
December is here and filled with cheer! It is time to start promoting the December monthly themes! Along with all of December’s jolly spirit, the month can sometimes be stressful. This month’s physical activity tips focus on how to stay energized by stretching. Using EatFresh.org, you can find great recipes using December’s Harvest of the Month, Kiwi and Carrots. This month’s nutrition tips focus on cutting back on added sugars.
Nutrition: Cut Back on Added Sugars
Healthy eating is important at every age. Eat a variety of fruits, vegetables, grains, protein foods, and dairy or fortified soy alternatives. When deciding what to eat or drink, choose options that are full of nutrients and limited in added sugars. Cutting back on added sugars is good advice for everyone. The consequences of consuming too much added sugar or sugary drinks are associated with weight gain, Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and tooth decay. To reduce added sugars, think about what's in your drinks, look for lower-sugar options, and split desserts. To build healthy eating habits, individuals over age 2 should choose foods and beverages with little to no added sugars, and those under age 2 should avoid them altogether.
Harvest of the Month: Kiwi and Carrots
Kiwi
A ½ cup of sliced kiwi is an excellent source of vitamin C and vitamin K. It is also a good source of fiber.
Carrots
A ½ cup of fresh or cooked carrots is an excellent source of vitamin A, a good source of vitamin K, and also a source of vitamin C, fiber, and potassium.
Physical Activity: Stretching
Stretching exercises help to increase flexibility. Some types of physical activities need flexibility, so stretching exercises can help you do these activities more easily. Stretching exercises can also reduce the risk of injuries, such as muscle strains.
