Fall is here and so are the leaves! The Department of Public Works helps ensure storm drains remain clean and clear of fallen leaves that might clog water ways. To support this effort, streets are swept bi-weekly the next business day after your regular trash pick up.
Other ways you can help keep our waterways clean this fall:
- Park in your driveway or garage on street sweeping days.
- Place yard trimmings in your green cart - never loose in the street.
- Request a free extra green cart from Mission Trail Waste Systems at 408-727-5368, if needed.
- Don’t blow or sweep leaves into the street or storm drains.
To report a clogged drain or for more information, email street@santaclaraca.gov, or call 408-615-3080.

At Silicon Valley Power, your feedback helps shape the programs, services, and improvements that power our community. We’re asking Santa Clara residents to take a few minutes to complete our Residential Customer Satisfaction Survey. Your input helps us understand what’s working well and where we can do better. The survey only takes a few minutes, and your responses will directly impact how we plan future programs, rebates, and community initiatives. Thank you for helping us keep Santa Clara powered by you!
The holiday season is upon us, which means celebrating with family, friends, and food! Follow these tips for planning an eco-friendly celebration this holiday season:
- Create a meal plan using the calculator at SaveTheFood.com to estimate how much food is needed based on the number of guests.
- Take inventory of the pantry, refrigerator, and freezer before grocery shopping to prevent overbuying and additional food waste.
- Stick to your shopping list - this will keep you from overbuying and keep you on budget!
- Ditch the paper and plastic and opt for reusable glass and cloth items instead, which are both beautiful and keep unnecessary items out of the landfill!
- Encourage your guests to bring their own reusable containers for leftovers.

Water & Sewer Utilities wishes you a festive holiday season filled with wonderful meals and time with family and friends. We also remind you to keep your drains free from fat! Prevent fat, oil and grease (FOG) from going down your kitchen drain to keep your pipes clear and flowing smoothly. Nothing spoils a merry mood like murky sewer mess backing up into your home! Scrape cooled grease from plates, pots and pans into the trash to avoid expensive and inconvenient plumber visits. Be sure to throw away oily and greasy dairy products, sunscreen, lotion, cosmetics and other similar items in the trash; they should never be poured down the drain. For more information, call Water & Sewer Utilities at 408-615-2000 or visit SantaClaraCA.gov/FOG.
