The City is pleased to announce the appointment of John Ramirez as the City’s new Director of Water & Sewer Utilities.
John is an accomplished leader with over 30 years of public sector water experience, having worked for cities and special districts throughout the Bay Area. He has served as a Chief Operator for nearly 20 years and currently works at the Contra Costa Water District in Concord, where he has been since 2017.
John holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He began his career as a Water Operations Manager in Sunnyvale, where he revamped the city’s operating and capital budget programs. At the Contra Costa Water District, John took on increasing responsibility in operations and maintenance management. In his current role as Chief Operator, John leads and manages water treatment, water quality, and control operations divisions. John’s first day with the City will be May 27.
The City is immensely thankful to retiring Water & Sewer Utilities Director Gary Welling, who has served for the past eight years. Gary’s leadership and expertise in water operations have been invaluable. He has done a tremendous job overseeing and planning for the City's water resources now and in the future.
