 Spring is here - which is the perfect time to prep your garden beds for the upcoming season! Compost is a fantastic way to enhance soil quality, helping it retain air, nutrients, and moisture for a healthier garden.
The City of Santa Clara is hosting a compost giveaway for residents on Saturday, April 5, from 8-11 a.m. at the City’s Corporation Yard, 1700 Walsh Ave. Staff will be onsite to help residents fill and load containers.
How to Participate:
- Bring a current utility bill and/or personal ID for verification.
- Bring your sturdy container(s) (such as a 5-gallon bucket).
- Limit: 40 gallons per household. Compost is available while supplies last.

 Celebrate the environment and learn ways to preserve the earth’s natural resources through everyday actions at the Earth Day/Arbor Day Celebration! Join us on Thursday, April 10, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Central Park Pavilion, 909 Kiely Blvd. for this family-friendly event. Santa Clara’s Annual Cleanup Campaign will take place April 28 - May 23. Collection crews pick-up furniture, appliances, e-waste, tires, residential construction debris, and yard waste. On designated weekends, eligible residences may set out bulky items.
Concrete, asphalt, dirt, brick, rocks, drywall and/or sawdust must be in a construction debris bulk bag to prevent storm drain pollution. Bag material must be a heavy-duty tarp or plastic specifically for construction debris. Purchase debris bulk bags at a local retailer or the Municipal Utility Services counter (1500 Warburton Ave). Failure to comply is subject to a $150 fine. One cubic yard of bagged debris accepted at no charge. Additional material collected at $25/cubic yard. Household hazardous material is not accepted.

 The Santa Clara Police Department is thrilled to announce the grand reopening of the Northside Police Substation located at 3992 Rivermark Parkway (at Harrigan) in Rivermark Village. The Northside Police Substation is a small, strategically located facility to enhance police visibility and accessibility while contributing to community safety and well-being.

 The Parks & Recreation Department is hosting the 2025 Sunset Cinema series from April to October.  Santa Clara Spring Citywide Garage Sale returns on Saturday, April 19! Register online for individual, multi-family, or block sales at SantaClaraCA.gov/GarageSale. An interactive map will be available for download on April 18, which will display the locations and details including the time, addresses, and items for sale.  Residents can safely dispose of household hazardous waste (HHW) at the free drop-off event on Saturday, April 26 in Santa Clara. Registration is required. Call the County HHW Program at 408-299-7300 or visit hhw.org to register.

To dispose of ammunition or explosives call the Police Department at 408-615-4700. For medication disposal, remember to remove the patient’s information and place the drugs in a separate container before arrival. We also accept unwanted pet medication.
 The City of Santa Clara is seeking applicants to fill 11 vacancies on several City Commissions and Committees.
Five Full Terms ending June 30, 2029, on the following Commissions/Committees:
- Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee (two)
- Cultural Commission (one)
- Historical and Landmarks Commission (two)
- Parks & Recreation Commission (one)
Six Partial Terms on the following Commissions:
- Senior Advisory Commission: three partial terms ending June 30, 2026, one partial term ending June 30, 2027 and one partial term ending June 30, 2028
- Cultural Commission: one term ending June 30, 2028

 In the November 2024 election, voters passed a $400M infrastructure bond. As part of the bond measure requirements, the City is currently recruiting to fill nine positions on the Bond Compliance Oversight Committee. Applications are due by 5 p.m. on Friday, April 29, 2025. Committee members will be selected by a lottery process and appointed by Council. Visit SantaClaraCA.gov/Commissions to apply.
The Role of the Bond Compliance Citizens' Oversight Committee:
- Ensure that project implementation is consistent with all Bond measure requirements, including the terms of the Expenditure Plan
- Review and report on annual audits • Review and provide recommendations to the City Council on any proposed amendment to the Expenditure Plan
- To inform the public concerning the expenditure of Bond proceeds
The Bond Compliance Citizens' Oversight Committee Shall Consist of Nine Members:
- The committee shall include seven City of Santa Clara residents
- One large business representative (50 employees or more)
- One small business representative (49 employees or less)
Please note that no business representative shall work for, have previously worked for, or be employed by a firm that provides services to any professional sports teams within the City of Santa Clara. It is not a requirement that business representatives be residents, but both representatives must be either an owner or employee of a business headquartered within the City of Santa Clara.

 Silicon Valley Power offers a scholarship program designed to help income-qualified Santa Clara residents learn the skills to earn a livable wage while pursuing high demand careers in the energy industry. Scholarships are available up to $5,000 for eligible customers currently enrolled in the Financial Rate Assistance Program who meet all program requirements.
