Recreation Classes for Winter
 The City of Santa Clara Parks & Recreation Department will continue to offer recreation classes and activities this winter. The City continues to follow COVID-19 health and safety guidelines, such as frequent hand washing, program area sanitization and required use of face coverings in programs and facilities. Early Learners
Imagine Me: The imagination is where everything begins! Spark your child's imagination with this class. Children will explore creativity through interactive storytelling and improvisational games. Behind the excitement and fun of acting out the adventures of classic stories are the educational benefits of this program.
Teacher Sean’s Music Factory: Discover the power of music on your child's development in the setting Music Together® provides. Children and their adult sing, move, jam, and have FUN as we develop a music making community. Teacher Sean, who also plays guitar for a portion of the class, provides 45 minutes of relaxed silliness each week, as he sneaks in the educational elements.
Youth
Boys Rec I: Learn the basics of boys gymnastics. Students are introduced to all Gymnastics Apparatuses for their age, level, and appropriate skills progression. Classes teach correct flight, safe landings, climbing, swinging, jumping, rocking, rolling, and beginning inversion.
Girls Rec I: Students are introduced to all gymnastics apparatuses for their age, level and appropriate skill progression. Classes teach correct flight, safe landings, climbing, swinging, jumping, rocking, rolling and beginning inversion.
Girls Rec II/III: Continue growing in your gymnastics skills. The II/III class consist of students who have mastered basic gymnastics skills and movement in the Level 1 program. Classes focus on building strength, flexibility, and progressive gymnastics skills.
Futsal Indoor Soccer: Futsal is a fun, fast-paced soccer game, played indoors within the lines of a basketball court, using a small size 3, low-bounce ball. Class format consists of technical instruction.
Scratch Ninja - Online: This beginning level class uses Scratch, a coding platform developed by MIT, as a tool to teach core computer science and coding concepts such as loop, conditional, motion, and sensing. Students will also work on a project in ranging from animation, games, to graphic design and storytelling, etc.
Adults and Teens
Adult Futsal: It's great fun and it's as competitive/non-competitive as you want to make it. Futsal is a fun, fast-paced soccer game, played indoors within the lines of a basketball court. The game consists of 2 teams of 4 players and a goalkeeper with unlimited substitutions and quick restarts.
LGBTQIA+ Choir: For anybody and everybody that identifies as LGBTQIA+ or an ally, this choir class will serve as a safe gathering place to build and experience community through singing. We will work on several songs in various genres. Beginning with a getting-to-know you and vocal placement session on the first day, we will focus on dynamics, blending and breathing technique throughout the remaining classes.
Yoga Flow: Allow the practice of yoga (union of body and mind, breath and movement) to contribute to your optimal health and well-being. Open to inspiration by participating in this class. All levels are welcome!
Adults 50+
BackHab: The program focuses on relearning functional movement patterns with carryover to activities of daily living. Progressions are included to further challenge qualities such as balance, coordination, endurance, trunk stability and gait. Precautions and modifications are addressed. No footwear is allowed in pool.
Tai Chi - In-person or Online: These slow, gentle, flowing martial art promoting balance, flexibility, strength and clarity. There are four different levels, 1-4, with levels 2-4 needing instructor approval. In-person and online classes available.
